16. The importance of search behavior and movements for spatial distributions of herbivorous insects
Sammanfattning : Insect populations commonly show large spatial variation in density, and much variation have been shown to be explained by the search behavior applied by the insect when locating habitat patches. This thesis explores the importance of odor-mediated attraction for immigration rates of herbivorous insects in relation to the size of the patches and the density of host plants within the patches. 17. Role of semiochemical in host finding, oviposition and sexual communication in Guatemalan potato moth Tecia solanivora
Sammanfattning : Semiochemicals are important cues in the interaction between plant and insects and between conspecific insects. Volatile compounds emitted by plants provide herbivorous insects with cues for host finding, selection and discrimination. In moths, female emitted sex pheromones enable conspecific males to find them for mating. LÄS MER
18. Structure and Function of Odorant Binding Proteins and Chemosensory Proteins in Moths
Sammanfattning : Odorant Binding Proteins (OBPs) and Chemosensory Proteins (CSPs) are small soluble proteins found in the lymph of insect sensillae located on insect antennae. Odorant Binding proteins are implied in olfaction, by binding hydrophobic odorant molecules and transporting them to the olfactory receptor located on the dendrite of the olfactory neurons. LÄS MER
19. Recognition and modulation of olfactory signals in the noctuid moth spodoptera littoralis
Sammanfattning : Food, mates and host plants are essential resources for plant-feeding insects. Optimal resource localization that fulfils the physiological need and reproductive goals of an insect is of utmost importance. LÄS MER
20. Morphologican and functional studies on the Drosophila neuromuscular system during postembryonic stages
Sammanfattning : The nervous system of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as an excellent model for fundamental neuroscience as well as for biomedical research of human neurological diseases. In this thesis, two aspects of the neuromuscular system have been investigated: the role of the IkB-protein Cactus in the larval neuromuscular junction and the morphology of motor terminals throughout adult life.
