  1. 1. The Principle of Scaling of Geographic Space and its Application in Urban Studies

    Författare :Xintao Liu; Bin Jiang; Yifang Ban; Meng Liqiu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographic space; scaling; GIScience; VGI; OSM; heavy-tailed distribution; the head tail division rule; space syntax; nature street; urban sprawl; floating car data; hierarchical spatial structure;

    Sammanfattning : Geographic space is the large-scale and continuous space that encircles the earth and in which human activities occur. The study of geographic space has drawn attention in many different fields and has been applied in a variety of studies, including those on cognition, urban planning and navigation systems. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The importance of search behavior and movements for spatial distributions of herbivorous insects

    Författare :Petter Andersson; Peter Hambäck; Johan Ehrlén; Tomas Roslin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Olfactory search; Habitat heterogeneity; Species-traits; Immigration; Scaling relationships; Patch size; Plant-insect interactions; EAG; Odors; Pheromones; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insect populations commonly show large spatial variation in density, and much variation have been shown to be explained by the search behavior applied by the insect when locating habitat patches. This thesis explores the importance of odor-mediated attraction for immigration rates of herbivorous insects in relation to the size of the patches and the density of host plants within the patches. 3. 3. Functional Capacity And Physical Environmenal Demand. Exploration of Factors Influencing Everyday Activity and Health in the Elderly Population

    Författare :Susanne Iwarsson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; barrier-free design; assessment; disability; docility hypothesis; gender-differences; gerontology; housing adaptations; I-ADL; occupational therapy; P-ADL; population study; primary health care; public health; survival; scaling methodology; Social medicine; Socialmedicin; samhällsmedicin; Gerontology; Gerontologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to explore relationships between functional capacity, environmental factors, everyday activity, and health in the elderly population. Initially, the Enabler, an instrument for assessment of the physical home environment's accessibility, was translated to Swedish and revised, and tested for reliability and validity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations to Explore Critical Property Relationships in Polymer Electrolytes : Polarity, Coordination, Ionic transport, Ion-pairing, and Ion-ion Correlations

    Författare :Harish Gudla; Daniel Brandell; Chao Zhang; Andreas Heuer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solid polymer electrolytes; molecular dynamics simulations; solvent polarity; ion-pairing; ion coordination; ion transport mechanisms; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : While ion transport in solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) has been explored for decades, there still remains controversies about its fundamental properties, often correlated with gaps between experimental and computational studies. Using molecular dynamics simulations to understand the complex transport mechanisms and also to fill these gaps is the main goal of this thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ecological systems in space: From islands to contiguous landscapes

    Författare :Ankit Vikrant; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem stability; metacommunity; Metapopulation; community assembly; species area relationships; complex ecological systems;

    Sammanfattning : Dispersal and interaction networks underlie many ecological systems, often dictating spatio-temporal dynamics as well as emergent patterns. Dispersal has implications for establishment for distinct subpopulations of individual species as well as for the emergence of universal spatial patterns and varied community level structures. LÄS MER
