  1. 1. The importance of search behavior and movements for spatial distributions of herbivorous insects

    Författare :Petter Andersson; Peter Hambäck; Johan Ehrlén; Tomas Roslin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Olfactory search; Habitat heterogeneity; Species-traits; Immigration; Scaling relationships; Patch size; Plant-insect interactions; EAG; Odors; Pheromones; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insect populations commonly show large spatial variation in density, and much variation have been shown to be explained by the search behavior applied by the insect when locating habitat patches. This thesis explores the importance of odor-mediated attraction for immigration rates of herbivorous insects in relation to the size of the patches and the density of host plants within the patches. 2. 2. Development of a vaccine against strangles

    Författare :Margareta Flock; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Strangles is an acute upper respiratory tract disease in the horse, which is characterized by purulent pharyngitis and lymphadenitis. It is caused by Streptococcus equi subsp. equi. The severe suffering and economical losses due to Streptococcus equi infections makes it one of the most important bacterial diseases in horses. 3. 3. Immune modulation in chronic HBV and HCV infection

    Författare :Catharina Hultgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HBV; HBeAg; HCV; NS3; chronic infection; humoral cellular immune response; Th1 Th2 cells; proliferative response;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic viral hepatitis is a major health problem worldwide. The two major viral causes for chronic hepatitis are the hepatitis B (HBV) and C viruses (HCV). HBV is a DNA virus with a rather limited genetic variability whereas HCV is an RNA virus with a high genetic variability. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Male moth behaviour and perception in pheromone plumes

    Författare :Peter Valeur; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; Grapholita molesta; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; Tortricidae; behaviour; electrophysiology; single cell; flight tunnel; sex pheromone; wind tunnel; radar; flight; pre-exposure; mechanisms of mating disruption; Agrotis segetum; choice test;

    Sammanfattning : Behaviour of male moths and electrophysiological responses of male pheromone-specific olfactory receptor neurones were studied in two model species, the oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta and the turnip moth Agrotis segetum. The studies were aimed at elucidating the relative importance of different mating disruption mechanisms. LÄS MER
