  1. 1. Exploring the role of gene duplications in plant-insect interactions

    Författare :Hanna Nicole Dort; Christopher Wheat; Noah Whiteman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant-insect interactions; comparative genomics; detoxification; transcriptomics; nitrile-specifier proteins; butterflies; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : As evolutionary biologists, we are often curious about the genomic origins of our favorite adaptations. Although some innovations certainly arose de novo, many more originated through the process of whole-gene or within-gene duplication. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Temperature and the synchrony of plant-insect interactions

    Författare :Tenna Toftegaard; Johan Ehrlén; Karl Gotthard; Christer Wiklund; Annette Menzel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brassicaceae; Anthocharis cardamines; climate change; development; oviposition; phenology; species interactions; herbivory; synchrony; timing; phenotypic plasticity; local adaptation; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing temperatures resulting from climate change have within recent years been shown to advance phenological events in a large number of species worldwide. Species can differ in their response to increasing temperatures, and understanding the mechanisms that determine the response is therefore of great importance in order to understand and predict how a warming climate can influence both individual species, but also their interactions with each other and the environment. 3. 3. Black mustard and the butterfly effect : metabolomics of plant-insect interactions under multiple stress conditions

    Författare :Stefano Papazian; Benedicte Albrectsen; Edward Farmer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant physiology; metabolomics; glucosinolates; multiple stress; ozone; Brassica nigra; Pieris brassicae; Brevicoryne brassicae; biology; biologi; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Entomology; entomologi;

    Sammanfattning : One main goal of ecological research is to understand nature´s complexity, in order to predict the potential impact of environmental perturbations. In this thesis, I investigate the ecological interactions between some of the most ancient organisms living on our planet: plants and insects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Plant polyploidy and interactions with insect herbivores

    Författare :Leena Arvanitis; Johan Ehrlén; Christer Wiklund; John N. Thompson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diversicifation; herbivory; host plant preference; plant galls; plant-insect interactions; plant polyploidy; selection; spatial variation; trait-fitness relationship; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Polyploidization has been suggested to be a common mechanism for plant speciation. Polyploidy is associated with changes in plant traits and altered habitat preference. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interactions between plants, microbes and insects

    Författare :Laura J. A. van Dijk; Ayco J. M. Tack; Arjen Biere; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aboveground–belowground interactions; Anemone nemorosa; fungal pathogens; insect herbivores; plant–pathogen–insect interactions; pollination; soil microorganisms; spatiotemporal disease dynamics; Quercus robur; ekologi och evolution; Ecology and Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Plants interact with an astonishing diversity of insects and microorganisms. Both above- and belowground, plants are attacked by herbivores and pathogens, and interact with mutualists such as pollinating insects and beneficial microorganisms. LÄS MER
