  1. 1. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis

    Författare :Peter Dahm; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Nitric oxide; Sepsis; NO inhalation; Endotoxin; Acute lung injury; ARDS; Nitric oxide synthase; L-NMMA; L-NAME; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; Pigs; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the control of blood pressure and organ perfusion. In septic shock, NO produced by inducible NO-synthase (NOS) has been claimed to mediate pathological vasodilation and cell injury, while NO produced by constitutive NOS may be protective in counteracting hypoperfusion and organ injury. 2. 2. Synchronized delivery of inspired nitric oxide : Effects on oxygenation and pulmonary tension during artificial ventilation

    Författare :Erkki Heinonen; Tim Higenbottam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; nitric oxide; pulsed administration; pulmonary hypertension; oxygenation; equine; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is a mediator of vascular smooth muscle tension that metabolises rapidly in blood. NO delivered by inhalation can therefore be used as a selective pulmonary vasodilator to relieve pulmonary hypertension or to improve oxygenation with no systemic effects. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nitric Oxide Exchange in Central and Peripheral Airways : Determinants in Health and Respiratory Disease

    Författare :Andrei Malinovschi; Christer Janson; Kjell Alving; Lena Holm; Elisabeth Bel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exhaled nitric oxide; alveolar NO; bronchial NO flux; extended NO analysis; asthma; smoking; snus; IgE-sensitization; pharyngo-oral tract; nitrate; nitrite; pulmonary hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a marker of eosinophilic steroid-sensitive inflammation in the airways of patients with respiratory disease. Moreover, information about the localization of inflammation in the respiratory tree is obtained by estimates of bronchial and alveolar contributions to exhaled NO. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pulmonary Hypertension and the Nitric Oxide System

    Författare :Dan Henrohn; Gerhard Wikström; Ulla Lindqvist; John Pernow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary hypertension; nitric oxide; ADMA; arginine; nitrate; nitrite; vardenafil; beetroot juice; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a pathophysiological state associated with several medical conditions, leading to progressive rise in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular failure. The clinical PH classification encompasses five main World Health Organization (WHO) groups; pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), PH due to left heart disease, PH due to lung diseases and/or hypoxia, chronic thromboembolic PH, and PH with unclear multifactorial mechanisms. 5. 5. Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and nitric oxide

    Författare :Kristina Hambraeus Jonzon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia; pulmonary vasoconstriction; regional pulmonary bloodflow; stimulus-response; nitric oxide; blood-borne distant effects; nitric oxide synthase activity; inhaled; exhaled; non-enzymatic;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxia causes pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV), improving oxygenation by redistribution of the pulmonary blood flow to better oxygenated lung regions. HPV is intrinsic to the pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell, but can be modulated by several vasoactive substances, as for example endothelium derived nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1).
