  1. 1. Exhaled Nitric Oxide in epidemiological and experimental studies

    Författare :Anna-Carin Olin; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :; Nitric oxide; exhaled air; nasal nitric oxide; ozone; pulp-mill; gassings; nitrate; atopy; sensitization; asthma; rhinitis; bronchiolitis;

    Sammanfattning : The overall purpose with this thesis has been to contribute to the assessment of theutility of exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) in epidemiological studies. The specific aims have been toinvestigate whether eNO increases after occupational exposure to high peaks of ozone, or afterexperimental exposure to ozone in ambient concentrations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nitric oxide within the concept of united airway disease : Exhaled and nasal nitric oxide in cystic fibrosis, asthma and upper airway inflammatory diseases

    Författare :Christina Krantz; Andrei Malinovschi; Kjell Alving; Celeste Porsbjerg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nitric oxide; nasal NO; exhaled NO; asthma; cystic fibrosis; airway inflammation; upper airway inflammatory disorders; united airway disease; IgE sensitisation; Lungmedicin; Lung Medicine; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Within the concept of united airway disease, it is postulated that inflammatory disorders in the upper and lower airways are interrelated and influence each other. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is an established biomarker of type-2 inflammation in the lower airways and is elevated in patients with asthma. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Airway responsiveness and exhaled nitric oxide : Studies in asthma and Sjögren's syndrome

    Författare :Dóra Lúðvíksdóttir; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Airway hyperresponsiveness; nitric oxide; airway inflammation; Sjögren s syndrome; asthma; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, four different types of provocation agents: methacholine, adenosine, cold air and mannitol were used to study different aspects of the airway responsiveness profile in asthma and Sjögren's syndrome. Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) and markers of eosinophil activation, serum eosinophil peroxidase (S-EPO) and eosinophil cationic protein (S-ECP) were measured. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exhaled nitric oxide in extreme environments

    Författare :Tryggve Hemmingsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Exhaled nitric oxide; hand-held instrument; electrochemical detector; microgravity; International Space Station; high altitude; hypobaric hypoxia; normobaric hypoxia; backdiffusion;

    Sammanfattning : Exhaled nitric oxide (NO) is a useful marker for lower airway inflammation. Since NO was found to be a component of an exhaled breath in the early 1990´s, the Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FENO 50) measurement is now well accepted among clinicians as a complementary test in the management of asthma. 5. 5. Pulmonary Hypertension and the Nitric Oxide System

    Författare :Dan Henrohn; Gerhard Wikström; Ulla Lindqvist; John Pernow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary hypertension; nitric oxide; ADMA; arginine; nitrate; nitrite; vardenafil; beetroot juice; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a pathophysiological state associated with several medical conditions, leading to progressive rise in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular failure. The clinical PH classification encompasses five main World Health Organization (WHO) groups; pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), PH due to left heart disease, PH due to lung diseases and/or hypoxia, chronic thromboembolic PH, and PH with unclear multifactorial mechanisms.
