1. Interleukin-17 in models of neutrophilic lung disease
Sammanfattning : Several acute or chronic lung disorders like adult respiratory distress syndrome, acute severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic lung allograft rejection and cystic fibrosis, are associated with signs of an excess innate response in the bronchoalveolar space. Neutrophils may play a pathogenic role in these lung diseases by contributing to non-specific bronchial hyperresponsiveness and bronchial hypersecretion, as well as to epithelial damage and tissue remodelling. 2. Transforming growth factor a in human hematopoietic cells
Sammanfattning : TGF-a, transforming growth factor a, is a potent growth factor belonging to the family of EGF (epidermal growth factor) -related proteins. Binding to the same receptor as EGF it has a ubiquitous repertoire of target cells, including, mesenchymal, epithelial and neuronal cells. LÄS MER
3. Phagocyte-induced apoptosis in natural killer cells and T cells. Role of reactive oxygen species and regulation by histamine
Sammanfattning : Malignant tumors frequently contain an infiltrate of leukocytes, usually cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage and lymphocytes with anti-tumor activity such as natural killer (NK) cells and T cells. Clinical and experimental data suggest that monocytes/macrophages in tumors inhibit functions of adjacent NK cells/T cells and thereby suppress lymphocyte-dependent anti-tumor immunity. LÄS MER
4. The Role of Innate Immunity in Islet Transplantation : Clinical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : Clinical islet transplantation is an emerging procedure to cure type 1 diabetes. The graft is implanted by infusion into the liver through the portal vein. A major obstacle that still needs to be overcome is the requirement for islets from multiple donors to achieve insulin independence. LÄS MER
5. Interleukin-17 in non-allergic airway inflammation
Sammanfattning : Chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma and cystic fibrosis are common clinical disorders all characterized by airway neutrophilia. By releasing proteolytic enzymes and free oxygen radicals, neutrophils can contribute to the main features of these diseases such as airway obstruction, hypersecretion and remodelling. LÄS MER
