1. Turn-taking and early phonology : Contingency in parent-child interaction and assessment of early speech production
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on contingency in parent-child interaction, investigating it in the light of the linguistic capacity of the child and the status of the caregiver. Further, the thesis covers the development of two tools to assess the developmental maturity level of expressive phonology. LÄS MER
2. Variation in age and size at maturation in two benthic crustaceans in the Gulf of Bothnia
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with variation in age and size at maturation in Saduria entomon and Pontoporeia affinis along a depth gradient in the Gulf of Bothnia, Sweden. I have analysed at what sizes and ages animals should mature in relation to growth and mortality conditions. LÄS MER
3. Body Size Evolution in Butterflies
Sammanfattning : Life history research deals with the scheme of resource partitioning to a wide spectra of processes and the trade-offs shaping these events. One of the most fundamental life history trade-offs is the one of at which age- and size an organism should start to reproduce; reaching a large size at maturity is often advantageous in terms of high adult survival and reproductive potential, while to attain a larger size the organisms must prolong juvenile development which is assumed costly in terms of mortality. 4. Validity and reliability of a submaximal cycle ergometer test for estimation of maximal oxygen uptake
Sammanfattning : Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is the highest obtained rate of oxygen consumption during a physically intense dynamic whole-body activity. VO2max is an important factor for many types of physical performance, as well as a strong independent predictor of health and longevity. LÄS MER
5. Bone mass in young adults - determinants and fracture prediction
Sammanfattning : Bone mass in adolescents and young adults was studied with regard to its age-related change and its determinants. Methodological aspects of bone mass measurements and their ability to predict future fractures were investigated. LÄS MER
