16. NO, Immunosuppression and Tumor Immmunotherapy
Sammanfattning : This study aims at clarifying the role of NO in the immunosuppression induced by in vivo tumor growth and by tumor immunotherapy, and determining whether the inhibition of NO production can be used as an adjuvant in tumor immunotherapy. We have shown previously that tumor cells, glioma (N32) and colon carcinoma (H1D2), when genetically engineered to express such immune stimulatory cytokines as IFN-g and IL-18, induce strong anti-tumor immune response, in immunized tumor-free rats, whereas only a limited therapeutic effect is achieved in rats in which a tumor has already become established. 17. Effect of quinoline-3-carboxamides on myeloid cells in inflammation and cancer
Sammanfattning : The quinoline-3-carboxamides (Q compounds) are a family of small molecules that ameliorate various types of murine inflammatory autoimmune disease. One such compound has also demonstrated anti-tumor effects in murine tumor models. LÄS MER
18. Mechanisms regulating Natural Killer Cell Cytotoxicity
Sammanfattning : Over the last 50 years, cancer survival rates have steadily improved thanks to earlier detection and novel treatment regimens. For example, drugs that act on the immune system, so-called immunotherapy, have drastically increased the prospect of survival for patients suffering from some of the most aggressive cancer types including advanced malignant melanoma. 19. Antigens associated with human urinary bladder carcinoma : identification and functional studies
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this study was to identify antigens associated with themalignant state of human urinary bladder carcinoma cells. Characterization ofsuch tumor-associated antigens should provide clues to the molecularmechanisms of tumorigenesis, as well as leading to possible clinical applications, such as immunodiagnosis and immunotherapy. 20. Cancer and Inflammation : Role of Macrophages and Monocytes
Sammanfattning : Macrophages are cells of the innate immune system that can be found in large quantities in cancer tumors and affect cancer progression by regulating growth and invasiveness of cancer cells. There are two main phenotypes of macrophages denoted M1 and M2. LÄS MER
