  1. 1. Dissecting the Microenvironment of Urothelial Bladder Cancer : Therapy, Modelling and Biomarkers

    Författare :Iliana Kyriaki Kerzeli; Sara Mangsbo; Tania de Gruijl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immuno-oncology; Tumor immunology; MALT1 inhibition; Urothelial bladder cancer; Tumor microenvironment; Immunologi; Immunology; Oncology; Onkologi; Urologi; Urology;

    Sammanfattning : The complexity of the tumor microenvironment (TME) impacts therapy responses and the survival of cancer patients. The scope of this thesis is to study the effects of immune modulation on tumor-infiltrating leukocytes, and to explore the TME of urothelial cancer to provide the research society with new knowledge and potential therapeutic targets. 2. 2. Autocrine growth stimulation in human bladder cancer

    Författare :Anders Ruck; Nils-Erik Heldin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Bladder cancer is one of the most common human cancers which, on a worldwide basis, represents 3-4 % of all malignancies. It is primarily occuring in people over 60 and males are about 2-3 times more likely to develop bladder cancer than are women. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of bacterial genotoxins on immune modulation, chronic inflammation and cancer development

    Författare :Anna Bergonzini; Teresa Frisan; Maria Fällman; Steffen Backert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal microbiome of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and colorectal cancer patients is enriched in genotoxin-producing bacteria, which cause DNA damage in the host cells.Genotoxins have recently been identified as a novel family of effectors produced by pathogenic and commensal bacteria. 4. 4. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of human onchocerciasis

    Författare :Magdi Mahmoud Ali; Klavs Berzins; Norbert Brattig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is a parasitic disease that affects more than 20 million people globally. The induction of pathology is directly related to the presence and destruction of the microfilarial stages (mf) of this filarial nematode. LÄS MER

  5. 5. CD40L Gene Therapy for Solid Tumors

    Författare :Lina Liljenfeldt; Thomas Tötterman; Angelica Loskog; Sara Mangsbo; Evren Alici; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD40L; adenovirus; tumor immunology; tumor microenvironment; immunotherapy; local immunotherapy; antigen presentation; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Adenoviral CD40L gene therapy (AdCD40L) is a strong inducer of anti-tumor immune responses via its activation of dendritic cells (DCs). Activated DCs can in turn activate T cells, which are key players in an efficient anti-tumor response.This thesis includes three papers that focus on different aspects of AdCD40L gene therapy. LÄS MER
