  1. 6. Left Ventricular Dynamics During Exercise in Endurance Athletes

    Författare :Milena Sundstedt; Tommy Jonason; Egil Henriksen; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; athletes; exercise; left ventricular dynamics; stroke volume; mitral annular motion; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Large quantities of data have described left ventricular adaptation to endurance training, but basic concepts on left ventricular performance during exercise remain controversial. In this thesis, we present the results of studies of left ventricular dynamics during exercise in 89 endurance-trained athletes. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Human neural stem cells: region-specific properties and prospects for cell therapy

    Författare :Therese Kallur; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pax6; fetal cortex and striatum; human; neural stem cells; transplantation; neurospheres; stroke; overexpression; region-specific properties;

    Sammanfattning : Cell replacement by neural transplantation can, in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, reconstruct damaged brain circuitry. In the clinical situation, the graft material used for cell therapy must, most likely, be of human origin. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Early Physiotherapy in the Neurointensive Care Unit - Passive Physiotherapy Interventions

    Författare :Annelie Thelandersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiotherapy; Brain injury; Stroke; Intensive care unit; Prone position; Range of motion; Continuous passive motion; Intra cranial pressure; Cerebral perfuison pressure; Haemodynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In critically ill patients, treated in the neurointensive care unit (NICU) because of severe brain injury or stroke, physical activities have been restricted to a minimum due to the potential risks of complications and adverse events. Nevertheless, passive physiotherapy treatments are widely used without conclusive evidence for their safety. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers

    Författare :Ronnie Wirestam; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diagnostic radiology; cortical activation; diffusion; tumor; tumour; ischemic stroke; ischaemic stroke; tracer kinetics; bolus tracking; phase mapping; brain motion; intracranial dynamics; blood flow; haemodynamics; vascularity; MRS; perfusion; MRI; magnetic resonance; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated. 5. 10. Catch Atrial Fibrillation, Prevent Stroke : Detection of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias with short intermittent ECG

    Författare :Tijn Hendrikx; Herbert Sandström; Mårten Rosenqvist; Per Wester; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; screening; primary prevention; secondary prevention; handheld ECG; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in the adult population, affecting about 5% of the population over 65 years. Occurrence of AF is an independent risk factor for stroke, and together with other cardiovascular risk factors (CHADS2/CHA2DS2- VASc), the stroke risk increases. LÄS MER
