1. Chromatographic Studies of Solute Interactions with Immobilized Red Blood Cells and Biomembranes
Sammanfattning : Specific and non-specific interactions of solutes with immobilized biomembranes were studied using chromatographic methods. Liposomes, proteoliposomes and red blood cell (RBC) membrane vesicles were immobilized by a freeze-thawing procedure, whereas whole RBCs were adsorbed in the gel beds using electrostatic interaction, binding to wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or the streptavidin-biotin interaction. 2. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. Sammanfattning : Pulmonary delivery of drugs is the preferred route of administration for treatment of local lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recently, there has also been increased interest in systemic delivery of drugs via the lungs to avoid problems with low and/or variable gastrointestinal absorption, and as a needle-free alternative for drugs that cannot be ingested. Sammanfattning : In Jonathan Littell’s The Kindly Ones (Les Bienveillantes, 2006), a discrepancy is found between the historical account and the personal story, indicating the major ambivalence that arises from the creation of a historical world (noesis) as opposed to a fictional world (poiesis). This major ambivalence is connected to a range of minor ambivalences (and other elements of uncertainty) that are related to the novel’s treatment of the historical period of World War II in ways that unsettle and defamiliarize the typical standards of Holocaust representations. 5. The open absorption system : energy savings in different applications
Sammanfattning : The open absorption system is a technique that makes it possible to recover energy in different processes using moist air. In most applications the latent heat in moist air is difficult to recover because of the low temperature. Processes using outdoor air to carry away moisture therefore have high energy demands.
