  2. 2. Properties of Activated Sludge Flocs

    Författare :Britt-Marie Wilen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floc strength; aerobic microbial activity; reflocculation; dissolved oxygen concentration; settling; deflocculation; filamentous microorganisms; shear forces; floc size; activated sludge;

    Sammanfattning : The quality of the effluent from activated sludge treatment plants is highly dependent on the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation process. The aim of this thesis was to study (i) the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on effluent turbidity and flocculation, as well as on the settling properties of activated sludge, for both short term and long term scales, and (ii) the influence of aerobic microbial activity on the stability of activated sludge flocs.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp and paper; anaerobic digestion; fibre sludge; activated sludge; condensates; bleaching wastewater; wastewater treatment; methane; degradability; nutrient recirculation; Pappers- och massa; anaerob nedbrytning; fiberslam; aktivt slam; kondensat; vattenrening; metan; nedbrytbarhet; näringsåterföring;

    Sammanfattning : The pulp and paper industry is a large producer of wastewater and sludge, putting high pressure on waste treatment. In addition, more rigorous environmental legislation for pollution control and demands to increase the use of renewable energy have put further pressure on the pulp and paper industry’s waste treatment, where anaerobic digestion (AD) and the production of methane could pose a solution. 4. 4. Realising full-scale control in wastewater treatment systems using in situ nutrient sensors

    Författare :Pernille Ingildsen; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reglerteknik; robotteknik; Automatiska system; control engineering; Instrumentation; Wastewater treatment; Control; Full-scale plants; Control structures; Electronics and Electrical technology; Elektronik och elektroteknik; robotics; Automation; kontroll av utsläpp; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Environmental technology;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract A major change in paradigm is taking place in the operation of wastewater treatment plants as automatic process control is becoming feasible. This change is due to a number of different reasons, not least the development of online nutrient sensors, which measure the key parameters in the biological nutrient removal processes, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Human salmonellosis : impact of travel and trade from a Swedish perspective

    Författare :Birgitta De Jong Skierus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Salmonella; salmonellosis; reptile-associated salmonellosis; travel-associated salmonellosis; S. Enteritidis; European salmonella incidence; serotype; serovar; sewage treatment plants; antibiotic resistant; pre-travel advice.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Salmonellosis is one of the most important gastrointestinal infections in humans. The vast majority of Swedish Salmonella cases have acquired the disease abroad, reflecting both a large number of Swedish travellers and a very favourable domestic Salmonella situation compared to other countries, mainly due to various control programs implemented in the animal food production and import regulations (e.
