  1. 16. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Författare :Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Device Fabrication and Photosensitizing Role of ZnO Nanostructures in Photodynamic Therapy of Cancer

    Författare :Kishwar Sultana; Magnus Willander; Omer Nour; Arne Rosén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Zinc oxide nanostructures; light emitting diodes; reactive oxygen species; photosensitizer; cancer cell; photodynamic therapy; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : In nanoscience and nanotechnology, zinc oxide (ZnO) is gaining much research attention due to direct wide band gap (3.3 eV), large exciton binding energy (60 meV), and deep level defects emissions that cover the whole visible range. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Neutrophil function in health and disease - role of intracellular radicals and galectin-3 as regulators of inflammation

    Författare :Martina Sundqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrophils; reactive oxygen species; galectin-3; PFAPA;

    Sammanfattning : The focus for this PhD project has been to investigate neutrophil functions in different (inflammatory) settings with specific focus on phagocyte-derived intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as neutrophil interaction with the inflammatory mediator galectin-3. Neutrophils, the most abundant leukocyte in human blood, have traditionally been viewed upon mainly as professional phagocytes, being able to degrade invading microbes, and thus essential in the defence against infection. 4. 19. TGFβ and LXR signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Författare :Claudia Bellomo; Aristidis Moustakas; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hepatocellular Carcinoma; high-throughput imaging; small molecules; epithelial plasticity; LXR; Snail; TGFβ; tumor suppression; reactive oxygen species; cancer-associated fibroblast; myofibroblast; Smad3; αSMA;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent cancer types in the Western world and in the Asia-pacific regions, with its incidence expected to rise up to 22 million cases till 2020. Hepatocellular carcinoma etiology is mainly due to hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections, and to a lesser extent it is determined by the development of alcohol-driven cirrhosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). 5. 20. Modulation of Receptor Signaling and Functional Selectivity in Neutrophils

    Författare :Michael Gabl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; G-protein coupled receptors; reactive oxygen species; ligands; functional selectivity; allosteric modulation;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophils are important effector cells of the innate immune system and in the regulation of inflammation. Many of their functions, such as chemotactic migration, secretion of granule constituents and activation of the oxygen radical-producing NADPH-oxidase, are regulated by cell surface receptors. LÄS MER
