  1. 1. LDL oxidation, iron, lysosomes, and macrophages in early atherosclerosis

    Författare :Xi Ming Yuan; W. John Eaton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) may result in its uptake by macrophages with ensuing foam cell formation. Thus, oxidised LDL (oxLDL) may play an important role in atherogenesis. Extensive in vitro evidence is in favour of the notion that LDL oxidation by cells present in atherosclerotic plaques requires the presence of transition metals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Antioxidative Properties of Herring (Clupea harengus) Press Juice in Food, In Vitro and In Vivo Model Systems

    Författare :Thippeswamy Sannaveerappa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; antioxidants; monocytes; washed cod mince; Clupea harengus; LDL oxidation; press juice; oxidation; ORAC; hemoglobin; alpha-tocopherol; herring; in vitro digestion.;

    Sammanfattning : Some species like herring (Clupea harengus) are currently under-utilized due to their small size, dark colour and susceptibility to lipid oxidation. Our hypothesis has been that the high susceptibility of herring to oxidation makes it well equipped with natural antioxidants, both fat and water soluble ones. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Författare :Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. LDL Oxidation Susceptibility and Its Relation To Antioxidants and Fatty Acids : A Clinical and Experimental Study

    Författare :Bo Ziedén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is an arterial disease characterized by lipid deposits in the artery wall. These lipid deposits partly consist of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (LDL). Several lines of evidence indicate a role of oxidized LDL in atherogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of hypoxia on macrophage function in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Ellen Knutsen Rydberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; hypoxia; macrophage; IL-8; oxidized LDL; oxysterols; 15-lipoxygenase-2;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a complex disease, which affects large and medium sized arteries and is characterized by an arterial wall thickening. A constant supply of oxygen is needed to maintain cell functions in the atherosclerotic plaque. The oxygen distribution to the cells in the arterial wall depends on diffusion. LÄS MER
