26. Induction of Mast Cell Apoptosis via Granule Permeabilization : A Novel Approach to Target Mast Cells
Sammanfattning : Mast cells are densely granulated tissue-resident immune cells that play an important role in orchestrating inflammatory responses. Dysregulated increases in the numbers and activation status of mast cells can have deleterious consequences for the body in various inflammatory diseases. LÄS MER
27. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase
Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 28. Vitamin B6 as a potential antioxidant : a study emanating from UV-B-stressed plants
Sammanfattning : Increased influx of solar UV-B radiation (280-320 nm), due to a decreasing stratospheric ozone layer, impacts severely on plants. Some of the UV-B effects on plants are related to stress induced by produced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) has been reported to be a potential quencher of ROS. LÄS MER
29. Teratogenic Predisposition in Diabetic Rat Pregnancy
Sammanfattning : Pre-gestational diabetes increases the risk of congenital malformation in the offspring and both morbidity and mortality in the diabetic mother and her offspring. During pregnancy, high glucose levels act as a teratogen through several cellular and biochemical pathways and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has a central role in diabetic embryopathy. 30. COPPER BINDING PROTEINS IN BREAST CANCER : CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS
Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the leading causes of human death. However, the mechanisms governing cancer are still not fully understood. Elevated levels of copper (Cu) have been observed in both cancerous tissues and the serum of cancer patients. LÄS MER
