  1. 26. Induction of Mast Cell Apoptosis via Granule Permeabilization : A Novel Approach to Target Mast Cells

    Författare :Aida Paivandy; Gunnar Pejler; Magda Babina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mast cells; Granules; Apoptosis; Reactive oxygen species; ROS; Lysosomotropic agents; Mefloquine; Immunologi; Immunology; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are densely granulated tissue-resident immune cells that play an important role in orchestrating inflammatory responses. Dysregulated increases in the numbers and activation status of mast cells can have deleterious consequences for the body in various inflammatory diseases. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase

    Författare :Kingkamon Junkunlo; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Chadanat Noonin; Mats W Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ast1; clotting protein; crayfish; hematopoiesis; PVF PVR; ROS; transglutaminase; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 3. 28. Vitamin B6 as a potential antioxidant : a study emanating from UV-B-stressed plants

    Författare :Mikael Ristilä; Åke Strid; Leif Eriksson; Éva Hideg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; UV-B irradiation; pyridoxine; vitamin B6; ROS; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Increased influx of solar UV-B radiation (280-320 nm), due to a decreasing stratospheric ozone layer, impacts severely on plants. Some of the UV-B effects on plants are related to stress induced by produced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) has been reported to be a potential quencher of ROS. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Teratogenic Predisposition in Diabetic Rat Pregnancy

    Författare :Andreas Ejdesjö; Ulf J Eriksson; Parri Wentzel; Niklas Nordquist; Gernot Desoye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; malformations; teratogenic; advanced glycation end products; AGE; RAGE; oxidative stress; ROS; gene expression; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pre-gestational diabetes increases the risk of congenital malformation in the offspring and both morbidity and mortality in the diabetic mother and her offspring. During pregnancy, high glucose levels act as a teratogen through several cellular and biochemical pathways and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has a central role in diabetic embryopathy. 5. 30. COPPER BINDING PROTEINS IN BREAST CANCER : CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS

    Författare :Xiaolu Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atox1; Memo1; cell migration; breast cancer; copper; ROS;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the leading causes of human death. However, the mechanisms governing cancer are still not fully understood. Elevated levels of copper (Cu) have been observed in both cancerous tissues and the serum of cancer patients. LÄS MER
