36. Plant Inducible Responses to Damage: Evolution and Ecological Implications
Sammanfattning : Abstract Inducible plant responses to damage, i.e. inducible defence responses and compensatory growth responses, are theoretically examined in an evolutionary and ecological context. Inducible defences are generally considered to be beneficial under conditions of low risk of herbivory and when initial damage is moderate. LÄS MER
37. Ecology and control of Anopheles mosquitoes and human malaria in Guinea Bissau, West Africa
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the relationship between risk of exposure to infective Anophelesmosquitoes and different environmental factors, in particular house construction, presence ofdomestic animals and house location, in coastal Guinea Bissau, West Africa. The potentialeffect of permethrin-impregnated bed nets on mosquito abundance in bed rooms, and on thePlasmodium parasite prevalence in children was also analysed. LÄS MER
38. Plant responses after drainage and restoration in rich fens
Sammanfattning : Rich fens are an important, but threatened, habitat type in the boreal landscape. In this thesis I have examined responses of rich fen vascular plants and bryophytes after drainage and restoration. The effects of drainage on the rich fen flora were observed in a long time study and the responses were rapid and drastic. 39. Mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands in a climate change perspective
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands based on five altitudinal transects sampled during the period 1999-2001. The vegetation was studied on the basis of plant communities, life-forms and biodiversity of vascular plant species and is discussed in a climate change perspective. LÄS MER
40. Restoration of semi-natural grasslands : Impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem services and stakeholder perceptions
Sammanfattning : Humans play a major role shaping the living conditions for not only ourselves, but also all other species on Earth. In fact, some species-rich habitat types require human management to uphold the biodiversity and related ecosystem services. LÄS MER
