1. Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of pentoxifylline and metabolites
Sammanfattning : Pentoxifylline is a haemorheologic drug with complex pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics due to both reversible metabolism and the formation of active metabolites. In humans, pentoxifylline is metabolised to at least seven phase 1 metabolites (M1-M7). LÄS MER
2. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects
Sammanfattning : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. LÄS MER
3. Biological and Pharmacological Factor that Influence the Selection of Antibiotic Resistance
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic treatment causes an ecological disturbance on the human microflora. Four commensal bacteria: E. coli, enterococci, a-streptococci and coagulase-negative staphylococci, from patients with extensive, high antibiotic usage were investigated with regard to resistance pattern and mutation frequency. 4. Distribution of antiviral nucleoside analogues into brain and skin
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study physiological and physico-chemical factors influencing the pharmacokinetics and distribution over the blood-brain barrier of antiviral nucleoside analogues in the rat, and to study the distribution to the human skin in vivo of an anti-herpetic nucleoside analogue. Microdialysis was used to sample the free (unbound) extracellular concentration of the nucleoside analogues from the brain tissue, muscle and blood in the rat and from the dermis of healthy human volunteers. 5. Optical spectroscopy in biomedicine - detection of embedded inclusions and in vivo pharmacokinetics
Sammanfattning : The main theme of this thesis is the use of fluorescence spectroscopy in biomedicine. The work presented in the thesis can be divided into three areas of applications. The first area involves the use of fluorescence to find the location of a deeply situated fluorophore within turbid media. LÄS MER
