  1. 1. Genetic analysis of genes found on the 4th chromosome of Drosophila - emphasizing the developmental context of Pax6

    Författare :Jesper Kronhamn; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Kevin Moses; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Pax6; twin of eyeless; headless flies; head development; eye development; eyeless; Minute; RpS3A; regulatory region; Drosophila; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The small size and the lack of recombination set the fourth chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster apart from the other chromosomes. I have shown that the Minute gene on chromosome 4, earlier named Minute-4, encodes the ribosomal protein RpS3A. Two Pax6 genes, eyeless (ey) and twin of eyeless (toy) are also located on chromosome 4. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Genetic Sex Differences in Early Human Neuronal Development : An Investigation in Embryo Tissue and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Författare :Philipp Pottmeier; Elena Jazin; Armin Raznahan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex chromosome; gametolog; x y homolog; male; female; sex differences; sex bias; embryonic stem cells; neurodevelopment; neuronal differentiation; neural stem cells; genetics; neurodevelopmental disorders; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 3. 3. Studies of the Ribosomal Protein S19 in Erythropoiesis

    Författare :Hans Matsson; Niklas Dahl; Leif Carlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; RPS19; Rps19; erythropoiesis; erythroblastopenia; Diamond-Blackfan; anemia; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Ribosomal proteins are components of the ribosome, the protein synthesis machinery. The ribosomal protein S19 gene (RPS19) is mutated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia, DBA, which is a rare congenital anemia with absence or reduction of erythroid precursors in bone marrow. In this thesis, the role of RPS19 in erythropoiesis is investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stem cell function and organ development : analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells and eye development

    Författare :Lina Dahl; Leif Carlsson; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lhx2; hematopoietic system; hematopoietic stem cell; progenitor; embryonic stem cell; embryoid body; eye development; forebrain; eye field transcription factor; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Sammanfattning : When a multicellular organism suffers damages to tissues/organs it heals itself by either substituting the lost cellular matrix by scar formation or by regenerating the lost tissue. Regeneration likely occurs by a recapitulation of the developmental process that formed the organ. LÄS MER

  5. 5. PDGF in cerebellar development and tumorigenesis

    Författare :Johanna Andræ; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cerebellum; medulloblastoma; PDGF; GFAP; transgenic mice; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Medulloblastoma is a highly malignant cerebellar childhood tumor. As in many other brain tumors, expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and its receptors has been shown in medulloblastoma. LÄS MER
