1. Regulatory mechanisms of amino acid-induced signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the SPS (Ssy1-Ptr3-Ssy5) signal transduction pathway in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This pathway is induced by extracellular amino acids and facilitates their uptake. LÄS MER
2. Genetic analysis of genes found on the 4th chromosome of Drosophila - emphasizing the developmental context of Pax6
Sammanfattning : The small size and the lack of recombination set the fourth chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster apart from the other chromosomes. I have shown that the Minute gene on chromosome 4, earlier named Minute-4, encodes the ribosomal protein RpS3A. Two Pax6 genes, eyeless (ey) and twin of eyeless (toy) are also located on chromosome 4. LÄS MER
3. Regulatory T cells : molecular and clinical aspects
Sammanfattning : In the immune system’s tug of war with cancer, tolerance mechanisms by which the tumor can control anti-tumor immune responses play a central role in determining the outcome. Regulatory T cells (Treg) induced in the thymus or the periphery, represent one such tolerance mechanism that potentially can be exploited by developing tumors. LÄS MER
4. Studies on the Molecular Biology of the Mouse Pneumotropic Polyomavirus
Sammanfattning : The Murine Pneumotropic Virus (MPtV), in contrast to the other MurinePolyomavirus (MPyV), appears to be non-tumourigenic in its natural host. Instead, MPtV causes acute pneumonia and can serve as a model in studies of polyomavirus-induced disease. In initial experiments, MPtV large T-antigen (LT) was expressed in a heterologous system. 5. Gene complexes and regulatory domains in metazoan genomes
Sammanfattning : Despite the recent massive increases in genome and transcript sequence data, including wholegenome sequences for humans and many other metazoans, our understanding of the content of these sequences is far from complete. This thesis is about making use of metazoan sequence data to detect functional genetic elements on a genome-wide scale and examine the distribution of those elements on chromosomes. LÄS MER
