  1. 11. On the Influence of Rail Vehicle Parameters on the Derailment Process and its Consequences

    Författare :Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Johan Oscarsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; train; railway; rail vehicle; accident; incident; derailment; bogie design; simulation; wheel; sleeper; impact; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimising devastatingconsequences of high-speed derailments by appropriate measures and features in thetrain design, including the running gear. The course of events immediately afterderailments is studied with respect to whether the train stays upright and close to thetrack centre line or deviates laterally with probably serious consequences. 2. 12. Antibiotic Resistance : Selection in the Presence of Metals and Antimicrobials

    Författare :Lisa M. Albrecht; Dan I Andersson; Alex O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Metals; Antimicrobials; Bacterial evolution; Bacterial genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The external environment is complex: Antibiotics, metals and antimicrobials do not exist in isolation but in mixtures. Human activities such as animal husbandry, fertilization of agricultural fields and human medicine release high amounts these compounds into the environment. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Patterns and Processes of Molecular Evolution in Rickettsia

    Författare :Haleh Amiri; Dan Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Species of the genus Rickettsia are obligate intracellular parasites of the a-proteobacterial subdivision. It has been suggested that obligate intracellular bacteria have evolved from free-living bacteria with much larger genome sizes. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Antibiotic Resistance: A Multimethod Investigation of Individual Responsibility and Behaviour

    Författare :Mirko Ancillotti; Stefan Eriksson; Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist; Dan I. Andersson; Alberto Giubilini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Behavior; Health Behavior; Health Belief Model; Discrete Choice Experiment; Preferences; Bioethics; Empirical bioethics; Moral responsibility; Justice; Policy demandingness; Virtue ethics; Bioetik; Bioethics;

    Sammanfattning : The rapid development of antibiotic resistance is directly related to how antibiotics are used in society. The international effort to decrease and optimise the use of antibiotics should be sustained by the development of policies that are sensitive to social and cultural contexts. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Evolution and host-specific adaptations of Legionella pneumophila

    Författare :Anaísa B. Moreno; Lionel Guy; Dan I. Andersson; Fredrik Söderbom; Alexander W. Ensminger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; Legionella pneumophila; host-adaptation; experimental evolution; Acanthamoeba castellanii; transfection; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : How bacteria evolve pathogenic traits is shaped by their communities and environments. Legionella pneumophila is ubiquitous in aquatic habitats, where it persists by replicating within a broad range of protozoan hosts. Using the same mechanisms, L. LÄS MER
