  1. 1. On Efficient Modelling of Wheel-Rail Contact in Vehicle Dynamics Simulation

    Författare :Matin Shahzamanian Sichani; Mats Berg; Roger Enblom; Asier Alonso; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel-rail contact; non-elliptic contact; rail vehicle dynamics; rolling contact; vehicle-track interaction; wheel-rail damage; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Tribologi; The KTH Railway Group - Tribology; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The wheel-rail contact is at the core of all research related to vehicletrackinteraction. This tiny interface governs the dynamic performanceof rail vehicles through the forces it transmits and, like any high stressconcentration zone, it is subjected to serious damage phenomena. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On Derailment-Worthiness in Rail Vehicle Design : Analysis of vehicle features influencing derailment processes and consequences

    Författare :Dan Brabie; Evert Andersson; Roderick A Smith; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; derailment; bogie design; wheel-sleeper impact; simulation; deviation; vehicle inter-connection; guidance mechanism; substitute guidance; articulated train; railway safety; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at systematically studying the possibilities of minimizing devastating consequences of high-speed rail vehicle derailments by appropriate measures and features in the train design including the running gear. Firstly, an empirical database is established containing as much relevant information as possible of past incidents and accidents that have occurred at substantial running speeds due to mechanical failure close to the interface between the running gear and the track. Sammanfattning : The wheel-rail contact is at the core of all research related to vehicle-track interaction. This tiny interface governs the dynamic performance of rail vehicles through the loads it transmits and, like any high stress concentration zone, it is subjected to serious damage phenomena. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On Simulation of Uniform Wear and Profile Evolution in the Wheel - Rail Contact

    Författare :Roger Enblom; Mats Berg; Simon Iwnicki; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel-rail contact; wear; wear prediction; wear model; wheel profile; rail; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Numerical procedures for reliable wheel and rail wear prediction are rare. Recent development of simulation techniques and computer power together with tribological knowledge do however suggest computer aided wear prediction as possible. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Light-weighting Methodology in Rail Vehicle Design through Introduction of Load Carrying Sandwich Panels

    Författare :David Wennberg; Sebastian Stichel; Per Wennhage; Ragnar Larsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sandwich panels; rail vehicle; lightweight; optimisation; carbody; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : Lightweight design in rail vehicles has been important for quite some time. Structures have been optimised to fulfill their purpose and cut unnecessary weight to reach allowable axle loads. Classically this is done by using steel, thin-walled structures, throughout the car body, or, alternatively, power-pressed aluminum profiles. LÄS MER
