  1. 1. Quinone reduction sites and the role of heme in succinate:quinone reductase. Studies in Bacillus subtilis and Paracoccus denitrificans

    Författare :Mikael Matsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carboxin; cytochrome b; electron transport; heme; quinone; Paracoccus denitrificans; Bacillus subtilis; Succinate:quinone reductase; succinate dehydrogenase; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Succinate:quinone reductase (SQR) is an enzyme in the respiratory system of aerobic cells. SQR catalyzes two reactions, the oxidation of succinate to fumarate and the reduction of quinone to quinol. These reactions are coupled by electron transfer within the enzyme from the site of succinate oxidation to the site of quinone reduction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bacterial Terminal Oxidases. Studies in Bacillus subtilis

    Författare :Lena Winstedt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mycology; virology; mykologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; di-copper center; cytochrome oxidase; Enterococcus faecalis; cytochrome bd; Bacillus subtilis; terminal oxidase; virologi;

    Sammanfattning : The final step in aerobic respiratory pathways is catalyzed by terminal oxidases. Bacteria generally have two or more terminal oxidases. Aerobically grown Bacillus subtilis synthesize three terminal oxidases: one cytochrome c oxidase, cytochrome caa3 and two quinol oxidases, cytochrome aa3 and cytochrome bd. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Prokaryotic Arsenic Resistance - Studies in Bacillus subtilis

    Författare :Emil Aaltonen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ArsB; Bacillus subtilis; arsenic resistance; arsenate reduction; arsenite transport; gene regulation; arsenate; ArsR; arsenite; transmembrane topology; Acr3; ArsK;

    Sammanfattning : Arsenic is a toxic metalloid which is found all over the globe. Due to its toxicity and wide abundance, all living organisms have evolved intrinsic arsenic resistance systems. In this study, three proteins that provide arsenic resistance in the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis have been investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stability determinants and decay of Bacillus subtilis mRNAs

    Författare :Gustav Hambraeus; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Bacillus subtilis; mRNA stability; degradation;

    Sammanfattning : Degradation of mRNA is a controlled process which is as important for gene regulation as the synthesis of mRNA. This thesis focuses on mechanisms of mRNA stability and degradation in Bacillus subtilis, the model of Gram-positive bacteria. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Proteostasis in Bacillus subtilis : chaperones and stress-response mechanisms

    Författare :Judith Matavacas; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein homeostasis; Chaperones; DnaK; trigger factor; Spx; YjbH; Bacillus subtilis;

    Sammanfattning : The maintenance of protein homeostasis, also referred to as proteostasis, is essential for preserving the structural and functional stability of the proteome in living organisms. This involves the precise control of protein synthesis, folding, and degradation. LÄS MER
