1. Proteostasis in Bacillus subtilis : chaperones and stress-response mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The maintenance of protein homeostasis, also referred to as proteostasis, is essential for preserving the structural and functional stability of the proteome in living organisms. This involves the precise control of protein synthesis, folding, and degradation. LÄS MER
2. On chaperone co-operation in temporal and spatial protein quality control
Sammanfattning : In order for a protein to be able to function correctly it needs to adopt its proper fold. Because of this, protein quality control (PQC) is vital at every level of cellular function. The central protein in PQC networks across all kingdoms of life are the Hsp70 molecular chaperones. 3. NMR as a tool in drug research : Structure elucidation of peptidomimetics and pilicide-chaperone complexes
Sammanfattning : In the last decades NMR spectroscopy has become an invaluable tool both in academic research and in the pharmaceutical industry. This thesis describes applications of NMR spectroscopy in biomedicinal research for structure elucidation of biologically active peptides and peptidomimetics as well as in studies of ligand-protein interactions. 4. Interconnectivity of mitochondrial protein biogenesis and homeostasis
Sammanfattning : To ensure correct protein function, the cells are equipped with a tightly regulated network of chaperones that support protein folding and actively participate in protein quality control (PQC) and turnover. Due to the dual origin of the mitochondrial proteome, the cytosolic and mitochondrial PQC networks coordinate to ensure protein import and assembly in the organelle. LÄS MER
5. Molecular development of a thermostable β-glucosidase for modification of natural products
Sammanfattning : The gene encoding a β-glucosidase originating from the extreme thermophile Thermotoga neopolitana has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The aim was to produce a thermostable enzyme that could be used to remove sugar residues from glucosylated natural products classified as flavonoids by applying a method combining extraction in hot pressurized water with enzymatic hydrolysis.
