    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; meningococcal disease; antibiotic resistance; antibiotic susceptbility; biological cost; PCR; sequencing; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi; Bacteriology; Bakteriologi; Biomedicin; Biomedicine; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Neisseria meningitidis, also known as the meningococcus, is a globally spread obligate human bacterium causing meningitis and/or septicaemia. It is responsible for epidemics in both developed and developing countries. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Surveillance of Antibiotic Consumption and Antibiotic Resistance in Swedish Intensive Care Units

    Författare :Marcus Erlandsson; Håkan Hanberger; Nils Smith-Erichsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial Antibiotic resistance; Antibiotic Consumption; ICU; Surveillance programme; Multi drug resistance; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; ICU demography; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Nosocomial infections remain a major cause of mortality and morbidity. The problem is most apparent in intensive care units (ICUs). Most ICU patients are compromised and vulnerable as a result of disease or severe trauma. One in ten people admitted to hospital is given an antibiotic for infection. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Selection of Resistance at very low Antibiotic Concentrations

    Författare :Erik Gullberg; Dan I Andersson; Diarmaid Hughes; Linus Sandegren; Laura Piddock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Selection; Antibiotic resistant bacteria; Minimal inhibitory concentration; Heavy metals; Conjugative plasmid; ESBL; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Biology with specialization in Microbiology; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The extensive medical and agricultural use and misuse of antibiotics during the last 70 years has caused an enrichment of resistant pathogenic bacteria that now severely threatens our capacity to efficiently treat bacterial infections. While is has been known for a long time that high concentrations of antibiotics can select for resistant mutants, less is known about the lower limit at which antibiotics can be selective and enrich for resistant bacteria. 4. 9. On the Origins of mobile Antibiotic Resistance Genes : A comparative genomics approach

    Författare :Stefan Ebmeyer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; comparative genomics; bacterial genomics; antibiotic resistance genes;

    Sammanfattning : Mobile antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), transferable between bacterial cells, are major contributors to the antibiotic resistance crisis we are facing today. From which organisms pathogens acquired these genes is mostly unknown, yet knowledge about their origin is needed in order to limit the emergence and spread of novel ARGs in the future. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Mechanisms of Antibiotic Resistance Evolution

    Författare :Michael Knopp; Dan Andersson; Anca Segall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance evolution; Escherichia coli; Salmonella; porins; fitness; epistasis; strain-specificity; sub-MIC; de novo gene evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The continuing emergence and spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria are a threat to various applications in modern medicine and impose a strong economic burden on health systems. The development of new antibiotics is slow and cannot counterbalance the dissemination of resistant bacteria. LÄS MER
