  1. 1. Warfarin treatment quality in stroke prevention

    Författare :Fredrik Björck; Anders Själander; Peter Svensson; Per Wester; Christine Kremer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anticoagulation; atrial fibrillation; complications; international normalized ratio INR variability; persistence; stroke; time in therapeutic range TTR ; treatment quality; warfarin; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundIschemic stroke is a serious condition often associated to presence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Use of anticoagulants for AF patients greatly reduces the risk of stroke. Warfarin is the most commonly used anticoagulant in Sweden. The aim of this thesis was to study the impact of warfarin treatment quality in Swedish stroke prevention. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Anticoagulation treatment in patients with a mechanical heart valve

    Författare :Bartosz Grzymala-Lubanski; Anders Själander; Peter J. Svensson; David Bergqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical heart valve; anticoagulation; warfarin; Time in Therapeutic Range TTR ; INR variability;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundEvery year about 2,500 patients in Sweden undergo surgery for heart valve disease, primarily in the aortic valve.  In contrast to the mitral valve, which can be repaired in 70% of the cases, the aortic valve is normally replaced by a mechanical or biological prosthesis. 3. 3. Chronic myeloid leukemia and cancer

    Författare :Niklas Gunnarsson; Anders Själander; Martin Höglund; Bertil Lindahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic myeloid leukemia; Prevalence; Malignancies; Odds ratio; Standardized Incidence Ratio; Outcome; Autoimmune diseases; Survival; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a relatively rare hematological malignancy with a constant incidence of approximately 90 new cases each year in Sweden (0.9 cases/100 000 inhabitants). The etiology is largely unknown but high doses of ionizing radiation are a known but rare risk factor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Efficacy and safety of warfarin treatment in venous thromboembolic disease

    Författare :Per Sandén; Anders Själander; Peter Svensson; Gerd Lärfars; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Warfarin; Venous thromboembolism; Bleeding;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundAs a major cause of morbidity and mortality treatment of venous thromboembolism is important, with the correct use of anticoagulants it is possible to greatly reduce both mortality and morbidity. Warfarin is among the most widely used anticoagulants being effective in treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism with few negative side effects other than bleeding complications. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Oral anticoagulation and stroke risk

    Författare :Vilhelm Sjögren; Anders Själander; Per Wester; Peter J Svensson; Mia von Euler; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; warfarin; atrial fibrillation; dabigatran; rivaroxaban; apixaban; low-molecular-weight heparin; bridging;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The risk of ischaemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and mechanical heart valve (MHV) prostheses can be reduced by oral anticoagulation (OAC), which increases the risk of serious bleeding. The aims of this thesis were [1] to find out how effective and safe warfarin is where treatment quality is high, i.e. LÄS MER
