  1. 1. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Lukas Boge; Martin Andersson; Lovisa Ringstad; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystals; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; cubosome; hexosome; phase behavior; antimicrobial peptide; AMP; glycerol monooleate; proteolysis; antimicrobial effect; antimicrobial resistance; bacterial membrane; membrane interaction; infection; topical delivery; pulmonary delivery;

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo Studies of Biomolecular Solutions and Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals

    Författare :Haukur Jóhannesson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stretched dispersion; DNA hydration; solvent dynamics; NMRD; Random flight simulation; PGSE; Diffusion; Nematic phase; NMR; Amphiphilic liquid crystals; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Biomolecular solutions and amphiphilic liquid crystals are studied by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Dispersion (NMRD) and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE) respectively. A random-flight simulation is performed to obtain the obstructing factors for self-diffusion of small molecules in macrofluids. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Amphiphilic hydrogels functionalized with antimicrobial peptides for wound care

    Författare :Edvin Blomstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; infections; Antimicrobial peptides; hydrogels; wound care; lyotropic liquid crystals; antibacterial surfaces; amphiphilic polymers; surface functionalization;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria have the potential to cause significant harm to us when found in places where we do not want them, such as in wounds. Through the last century, the gold standard of eradicating bacteria in these cases has been with antibiotics. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs

    Författare :Annika Ridell; Martin Malmsten; Sven Engström; David Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; surfactant; phase diagram; x-ray diffraction; fluorescence spectroscopy; calorimetry; PEG; cellulose ether; viscometry; cubic phase; liquid crystals; drugs; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. 5. 5. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Spin Relaxation in Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals

    Författare :Stefan Gustafsson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Gustafsson;

    Sammanfattning : Spin relaxation theory and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy in amphiphilic liquid crystals are presented. Group theory is used to determine the information content and the orientation dependence in spin relaxation experiments, and to investigate the combined effect of crystal and local symmetries and the effect of symmetry on multiple timescales.
