21. Molecular mechanisms of mammalian mitochondrial DNA replication and transcription
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are cytoplasmic organelles in eukaryotic cells, mainly devoted to the synthesis of ATP, through the Oxydative Phospshorylation System (OXPHOS). The organelle has its own genome, the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that encodes for all the RNA components of the mitochondrial translation apparatus (two rRNAs and 22 tRNAs) and for 13 subunits of the OXPHOS complexes. 22. Functional characterization of the small antisense RNA MicA in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : The Escherichia coli small RNA (sRNA) MicA was identified recently in a genomewide search for sRNAs. It is encoded between the genes gshA and luxS in E. coli and its close relatives. The function of sRNAs in bacteria is generally believed to be in maintenance of homeostasis via stress-induced modulation of gene expression. LÄS MER
23. Structure of small RNA phages
Sammanfattning : Small RNA phages belonging to the family Leviviridae are among the simplest known viruses. They have been used extensively as models for studies of various problems in molecular biology, including protein-RNA interactions, repression of translation, virus assembly and virus evolution. 24. Biogenesis of messenger and ribosomal RNPs in the eukaryotic cell
Sammanfattning : In eukaryotic cells, gene expression involves multi-step processes in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The different processes engage specific RNA-protein complexes, RNPs. Upon activation of most, if not all genes, a precursor RNA molecule is synthesized that has to be extensively processed and modified. LÄS MER
25. Regulation of the bacterial cell cycle in response to starvation
Sammanfattning : Bacteria have adapted to diverse environments, which are often unpredictable and constantly changing. In order to survive, bacteria need to make the most of nutrients while they are available, while being prepared to rapidly change their behaviour when conditions take a turn for the worse. LÄS MER
