11. Transition pathways for future district heating and cooling systems with thermal energy storage
Sammanfattning : Buildings’ heating and cooling account for more than 20% of the final energy use within the European countries and are dominated by non-renewable resources. Future district energy systems should enable efficient, fossil-free, and economical energy supply at operating temperatures that end users can directly utilize. LÄS MER
12. Transition metal ion-chelating ordered mesoporous carbons as noble metal-free fuel cell catalysts
Sammanfattning : Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells offer promising possibilities for clean and efficient chemical to electrical energy conversion, though their high price makes them financially unappealing. This is to a large part due to the high cost of the noble metal catalyst used in fuel cells, which makes development of new, cheap and active catalyst materials necessary. LÄS MER
13. National Energy System Modelling of Industry : Optimising the Transition Towards Carbon Neutrality
Sammanfattning : Industry is a major user of energy and emitter of fossil CO2. At the same time, Sweden targets net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Current policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change, and the transition of the energy system it requires, will present major challenges for industry. LÄS MER
14. In the Name of Energy Efficiency : Justice and energy poverty in the energy transition of Swedish housing
Sammanfattning : The energy transition of housing is accelerating in parallel with economic inequality reaching historically high levels. There is thus an opportunity to reduce inequalities in living conditions, but also a risk that the costs of the transition are unequally distributed and aggravate existing inequalities. LÄS MER
15. Tourism, Ecosystem Functions, and Human-Environmental Relations
Sammanfattning : The thesis aims at deconstructing the sustainable tourism paradigm: can tourism be "a global strategy for sustainable development", as the tourist industry claims? And will developing countries in particular profit from tourism development? To most international organizations and institutions (from the World Wide Fund for Nature to The World Bank), tourism, if carefully managed, is a positive, sustainable development tool. However, the research presented in this thesis exposes this view as unrealistically optimistic for at least three reasons: first of all, global environmental change caused by tourism has never been investigated and integrated with the discourse on sustainable tourism development.
