  1. 1. β-Adrenergic Signalling Through mTOR

    Författare :Jessica M. Olsen; Tore Bengtsson; Martin Klingenspor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glucose uptake; Brown adipose tissue; White adipose tissue; Skeletal muscle; Mechanistic target of rapamycin; Glucose transporter; Physiology; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Adrenergic signalling is part of the sympathetic nervous system and is activated upon stimulation by the catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine. This regulates heart rate, energy mobilization, digestion and helps to divert blood flow to important organs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Phylogeny and Signal Diversity in Widowbirds and Bishops (Euplectes spp.)

    Författare :Maria Prager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ploceidae; weaverbirds; stochastic character mapping; phylogenetic uncertainty; mate choice; status signalling; sexual dichromatism; C4-oxygenation; status signalling;

    Sammanfattning : Although sexual selection for elaborate signals is well documented in numerous species, the extreme diversity in signal design and expression in many taxa is largely unexplained. This thesis explores phylogenetic, mechanistic and ontogenetic explanations for divergence in two classic condition-dependent signal traits in the African widowbirds and bishops (Euplectes spp. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chemical signalling in the Drosophila brain : GABA, short neuropeptide F and their receptors

    Författare :Lina E. Enell; Dick Nässel; Jonathan Bacon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Insect nervous system; Drosophila; GABA; sNPF; GPCR; ion channel receptor; feeding; metabolic stress; olfaction; antennal; lobe; mushroom body; Morphology; Morfologi; funktionell morfologi; Functional Zoomorphology;

    Sammanfattning : Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and short neuropeptide F (sNPF) are widespread signalling molecules in the brain of insects. In order to understand more about the signalling and to some extent start to unravel the functional roles of these two substances, this study has examined the locations of the transmitters and their receptors in the brain of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster using immunocytochemistry in combination with Gal4/UAS technique. 4. 4. β-adrenergic signalling and novel effects in skeletal muscle

    Författare :Anette I. Öberg; Tore Bengtsson; Jon Arch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscles have, due to their large mass, a big impact on the whole body metabolism. There are many signals that can regulate the functions of skeletal muscles and one such signal is activation of α- and β-adrenoceptors (α- and β-ARs) by epinephrine and norepinephrine. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cellular Resilience and Fragility in Response to Environmental and Gene Expression Perturbations

    Författare :Lars-Göran Ottosson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Phenomics; Liquid microcultivation; Tellurite; Gene overexpression; gToW; Cellular signalling; HOG; Protein phosphatase;

    Sammanfattning : Cells are constantly subjected to perturbations. Whether these are extracellular or intracellular, they can be detrimental to cellular fitness. The cell has evolved elaborate systems and mechanisms that allow it to remain functional in the face of disturbances. LÄS MER
