6. Development and characterization of sensitive, energy-independent solid-state photon dosemeters with high spatial and temporal resolution. Applications in clinical radiology and radiation protection
Sammanfattning : AbstractModern medicine and health care rely on a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and methods that involve ionizing radiation. To guarantee quality and the safety of patients and staff, advanced radiation detectors and dosemeters are needed that have low energy and operate with directional independence for X-ray and γ-ray photons. 7. Integrated Photonics for Quantum Optics
Sammanfattning : Quantum physics allows us a vision of Nature's forces that bind the world, all its seeds and sources. After decades of primarily scientific research, we've arrived at a stage in time where quantum technology can be applied to practical problems and add value outside the field. LÄS MER
8. Development of Detector Systems for Internal and Fixed Target Heavy Ion Physics Experiments
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with intermediate energy heavy ion reactions with the particular aim to study the nuclear matter equation of state which defines the relation between statistical parameters of a fermionic system. The development of equipment for two experiments, CA47 at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden and R16 at Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut (KVI), Groningen, The Netherlands, are described. 9. Time-Resolved and High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation Crystallography using X-ray Area Detectors: Calibration and Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis relates to characterisation and calibration techniques for X-ray area detectors with applications in time-resolved and high-energy X-ray crystallography. X-ray crystallography is an interdisciplinary science with important applications in many fields, e.g. chemistry, physics, biology, geology and materials science. LÄS MER
10. Characterisation and application of a laser-based hard x-ray source
Sammanfattning : Hard X-rays are generated by focusing 110 fs laser pulses with intensities of about 1017 W·cm-2 onto solid metal targets. Characteristic properties of this X-ray source are the small source size, the short pulse duration and the high peak flux. LÄS MER
