  1. 11. Experimental Disruption of Intestinal Mucosal Homeostasis : Exploring the Protective Potential of Melatonin and Misoprostol

    Författare :Karsten Peters; Markus Sjöblom; Hans Lennernäs; David Dahlgren; Åsa Keita; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intestinal barrier dysfunction; intestinal permeability; chemotherapy-induced mucositis; doxorubicin; 5-fluorouracil; apoptosis; proliferation; melatonin; misoprostol; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa serves as a protective layer that separates the intestinal contents from the underlying tissues. It restricts harmful substances, pathogens, and undigested particles from entering the bloodstream. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The enterocyte in small intestinal adaption : an experimental and clinicopathological study with special reference to the ultrastructure of the brush border

    Författare :Roger Stenling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Scanning electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The small intestine mucosa is known to be able to adapt itself to several kinds of both physiological and pathological conditions. The adaptive patterns of the structure of the enterocytes, particularly their apical surface (brush border), were studied in three models: (1) in rats, subjected to antrectomy or antral exclusion, combined with gastroduodenostomy and gastrojejunostomy; (2) in rats with alloxan diabetes; (3) in children with coeliac disease; a) in its active phase; b) after long-term treatment with gluten-free diets; c) after long-term challenge with dietary gluten following treatment; d) after short-term elimination of dietary gluten. 3. 13. Human intestinal T lymphocytes : a comparative analysis of phenotype and function in normal and inflamed mucosa

    Författare :Silvia Melgar; Nadine Cerf-Bensussan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intestinal mucosa; intraepithelial lymphocyte; lamina propria lymphocyte; γδ T cell; regulatory T cell; cytotoxicity; cytokine; basal lymphoid aggregate; ulcerative colitis; Crohn s disease;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelial lining of the gut must allow immediate contact with beneficial components as nutrients and normal microflora. At the same time it runs the constant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes and noxious agents. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Human intestinal alkaline phosphatase : tissue expression and serum levels

    Författare :Ulla Domar; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human alkaline phosphatase; intestinal alkaline phosphatase; blood; blood group; lipid; monoclonal antibody; immunohistochemistry; liver; kidney; pancreas; liver disease; inflammatory bowel disease;

    Sammanfattning : Human alkaline phosphatase (ALP) comprises four isozymes, viz liver/bone/ kidney or tissue unspecific (AP), intestinal (LAP), placental (PLAP) and germ cell or PLAP-like alkaline phosphatase, with their main expression in specific tissues as indicated by their names. The isozymes are coded by different genes, but they are closely related, with more than 50% amino acid sequence homologies. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Challenge models and biomarkers of human intestinal barrier function

    Författare :María Fernanda Roca Rubio; Julia König; Robert J Brummer; Richard Forsgård; Kaatje Lenaerts; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial translocation; biomarkers; challenge models; intestinal barrier function; intestinal permeability; irritable bowel syndrome; physiological stress; psychological stress;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal barrier is an essential component in maintaining human health, and several diseases and disorders have been associated with a disrupted intestinal barrier function. To evaluate the efficacy of different interventions intended to strengthen intestinal barrier function, there is a need for both appropriate challenge models as well as easily accessible biomarkers.
