  1. 6. Bioengineering and Cell-derived Strategies for Salivary Gland Regeneration

    Författare :Jiao DONG; Lungbioengineering och regeneration; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular vesicles; precision-cut tissue slices; histology scoring; sustainable histology; salivary gland; human dental pulp stem cells; extracellulära vesiklar; stamceller från mänsklig tandmassa; precisionsskurna vävnadsskivor; Spottkörtel; hållbar histologi och histologipoäng;

    Sammanfattning : Xerostomia (dry mouth symptoms) is a group of incurable debilitating conditions of salivary glands caused by aging, radiation/chemical exposure, or aberrant inflammation in the salivary glands. During this PhD thesis, we aimed to evaluate whether cell-derived strategies (e.g. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Generation of cortical neurons through reprogramming technology

    Författare :Giedre Miskinyte; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cortex; Reprogramming; human ES cells; transcription factor programming; cortical projection neurons; Human adult cortical slices;

    Sammanfattning : The human cortex is affected by several debilitating acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, which target specific types of cortical neurons. Emerging evidence indicates that stem cells and reprogrammed cells can be used to generate human cortical neurons both for cell replacement by transplantation, and for disease modeling and drug screening. 3. 8. Functional features of human cytochrome P450 1A2 : with special focus on caffeine and melatonin metabolism

    Författare :Anna Nordmark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Drug metabolism; CYP1A2; caffeine; melatonin; liver slices; in vitro methods;

    Sammanfattning : CYP1A2 is one of the major cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver and metabolises drugs such as caffeine, clozapine, tacrine, and theophylline. CYP1A2 also has a role in chemical carcinogenesis due to its activation of procarcinogens, such as heterocyclic amines and arylamines. Caffeine is extensively used to assess CYP1A2 activity. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Physiopathological aspects of NMDA transmission in the basal ganglia : in vitro and in vivo release studies

    Författare :Michele Morari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :basal ganglia; NMDA; dizocilpine; microdialysis; slices; synaptosomes; dopamine; acetylcholine; glutamate; GABA; 6OH-dopamine;

    Sammanfattning : N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) is an excitatory amino acid selectively acting on a subclass of glutamate receptors (the NMDA ionotropic receptor) which has been involved in many of the physiological and pathological effects of glutamate in the CNS. The basal ganglia are particularly enriched in NMDA receptors and NMDA receptor activation in the basal ganglia has been involved in the expression of motor behaviour. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Nitric oxide and eicosanoids : significance and interactions during antigen-induced responses in peripheral lung tissue

    Författare :Anna-Karin Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nitric oxide; leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; ovalbumin; contractions; distal lung; rat; human; guinea pig; precision-cut lung slices; mast cell;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma means difficulty in breathing and is described as a chronic, inflammatory disorder that produces narrowing of the lower respiratory tract. The allergen-induced asthmatic bronchoconstriction is primarily caused by an IgE-mediated release of the mast cell mediators, histamine and eicosanoids (leukotrienes and prostanoids). LÄS MER
