  1. 1. Single nucleotide polymorphisms related to immune responses in Plasmodium falciparum malaria

    Författare :Amre Nasr; Klavs Berzins; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Gehad ElGhazali; Thor Theander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FcγRIIa-R H131; CRP genotypes; GM KM allotypes; IgG; and malaria; Sudan; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The current research is directed towards dissection of host genetic factors involved in host immune response and the malaria disease outcome. A possible association between FcγRIIa polymorphism and anti-malarial antibody (A.M.A) responses were investigated in Sudanese patients in relation to clinical outcome of falciparum malaria. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Detecting Sex and Selection in Ancient Cattle Remains Using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

    Författare :Emma M Svensson; Anders Götherström; Juha Kantanen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aurochs; cattle; ancient DNA; SNP; pyrosequencing; selection; Bos taurus; Historical osteology; Historisk osteologi; Genetics; Genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : All contemporary taurine cattle originated some 10,000 years ago when their wild ancestor, the aurochs, was domesticated in the Near East. Although the aurochs was widespread also in Europe, there is no evidence for a local domestication. The aurochs has been extinct since 1627 and therefore little is known about its biology. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Functional Role of Genetic Polymorphisms Associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Författare :Sara E Löfgren; Ulf Gyllensten; Jan Hillert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoimmunity; systemic lupus erythematosus; genetic association; single nucleotide polymorphism; IRF5; CD226; miR-146a; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic and complex autoimmune disorder characterized by a failure in the mechanism of self-tolerance and production of autoantibodies, potentially affecting any organ in the body. The genetic factors behind the disease have been extensively studied in the past years and to date a list of more than 30 loci have been associated with SLE. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The clinical course of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is highly heterogeneous, which has prompted the search for biomarkers that can predict prognosis in this disease. The IGHV gene mutation status and certain genomic aberrations have been identified as reliable prognostic markers of clinical outcome for this disorder. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach

    Författare :Hee-Bok Park; Leif Andersson; Stefan Marklund; Robert Fredricksson; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Domestication; horse; pig; chicken; quantitative traits; candidate gene; genome scan; PRKAG3; MC4R; selection experiment; growth; correlated response; metabolic disorders; Quantitative Trait Loci; linkage; single nucleotide polymorphisms; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens.
