11. Interactions between streptococcal M proteins and human plasma proteins
Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes is a common human pathogen, which causes a variety of diseases. A major virulence factor of S. pyogenes is the surface-associated M protein, which mediates resistance to phagocytosis. Several studies indicate that M proteins inhibit complement deposition and thereby phagocytosis. LÄS MER
12. Serum Amyloid A Protein (SAA) in Healthy and Infected Individuals
Sammanfattning : Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is an acute phase protein that has recently gained increasing interest as a potential marker for disease and treatment monitoring. We investigated SAA and CRP levels in (a) patients with various common infectious diseases (n=98), (b) patients with pyelonephritis (n=37) versus patients with cystitis (n=32), (c) healthy individuals of varying ages (n=231), (d) very immature newborn infants with or without nosocomial infections (NIs) (n=72) and (e) patients with bacterial infections treated with cefuroxime (n=81). 13. Nanostructure and biomolecule interactions : Characterizing the complex
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results of studies done on various biomolecules and their interactions with nanomaterials. The biomolecule sources are everything from purified, single proteins to the complicated mixture of blood serum and cell culture media. LÄS MER
14. Interaction Studies in Complex Fluids with Optical Biosensors
Sammanfattning : In this thesis interactions in complex fluids, such as serum and meat juice, were analysed with optical biosensor techniques.Panels of lectins immobilised on gold surfaces were used for investigation of differences in protein glycosylation pattern in sera and meat juices between various species. 15. Colon cancer : disease related proteins in tumor tissue and serum
Sammanfattning : Despite the progress in surgical techniques and adjuvant therapies the mortality of around 60% within the group of colon cancer patients did not decrease significantly over the last decades. This determines a growing demand for biomarkers for early detection, prognosis and risk assessment in colorectal malignancies. LÄS MER
