  1. 11. Asthma, chronic bronchitis and respiratory symptoms : prevalence and important determinants

    Författare :Bo Lundbäck; Jacob Boe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; chronic bronchitis; epidemiology; prevalence; determinants;

    Sammanfattning : The Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden study's (OLIN) overall aim is prevention of obstructive airways diseases; asthma, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The first part of the OLIN study was a cross- sectional study in three phases, which aimed to estimate the prevalence obstructive lung diseases and to collect data on possible determinants of diseases. 2. 12. Regional Lung Mechanics and Influence of an Active Diaphragm in Experimental Lung Injury

    Författare :Mariangela Pellegrini; Anders Sune Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Michael Quintel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute respiratory distress syndrome; artificial respiration; diaphragm; pulmonary atelectasis; lung imaging; respiratory system; animal model; Fysiologi; Physiology; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Despite being an essential life-support strategy in severe respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation can, if not optimally set and monitored, lead to injury of the lung parenchyma and diaphragm. These conditions are called ventilator-induced lung injury and ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD), respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Health effects of air pollution in Iceland : respiratory health in volcanic environments

    Författare :Hanne Krage Carlsen; Anna Oudin; Thorarinn Gislason; Kadri Meister; Bertil Forsberg; Gunilla Wieslander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiratory health; air pollution; volcanic ash; epidemiology; hydrogen sulfide.; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Air pollution has adverse effects on human health. The respiratory system is the most exposed and short-term changes in air pollution levels have been associated with worsening of asthma symptoms and increased rates of heart attacks and stroke. Air pollution in cities due to traffic is the major concern, as many people are exposed. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Home Mechanical Ventilation in Sweden. Demography, Indications, Clinical Effects and Survival

    Författare :Michael Laub; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; home mechanical ventilation; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; causes of death; selection criteria; clinical effects; prevalence; temporal changes; survival; Chronic respiratory failure hypoventilation;

    Sammanfattning : Home mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to several different diseases has become widely acceptable as the provision of ventilatory support can provide symptomatic relief and increase life expectancy. Aims: To study the selection criteria underlying the initiation of home mechanical ventilation and to quantify the effects of in relation to blood gases and lung function; to examine temporal changes in treatment prevalence in Sweden; to study survival and causes of death and demonstrate possible related impact factors. 5. 15. Lung mechanics in the aging lung and in acute lung injury. Studies based on sinusoidal flow modulation

    Författare :Ulrika Bitzén; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostics; Diagnostik; acute lung injury; lung mechanics; acute respiratory distress syndrome; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Fysiologi; Physiology; flow regulation; method; lung resistance; compliance; aging;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about lung mechanics is of interest in intensive care to adjust mechanical ventilation and in the lung laboratory for diagnostics and evaluation of patients with various kinds of respiratory diseases. In mechanical ventilation a single inspiratory elastic pressure-volume (Pel/V) curve is difficult to interpret due to continuing re-expansion of collapsed lung units over a large pressure interval.
