11. Characterization and persistence of potential human pathogenic vibrios in aquatic environments
Sammanfattning : Vibrio spp., natural inhabitants of aquatic environments, are one of the most common causes of bacterial gastroenteritis in the world, being spread to humans via the ingestion of seafood, contaminated drinking water or exposure to seawater. The majority of Vibrio spp. are avirulent, but certain strains may sporadically be human pathogenic. LÄS MER
12. Survival of infectious agents and detection of their resistance and virulence factors
Sammanfattning : In the first study, three different transport systems for bacteria were evaluated. The CLSI M40-A guideline was used to monitor the maintenance of both mono- and polymicrobial samples during a simulated transportation at room temperature that lasted 0-48 h. LÄS MER
13. Triggering and inhibitory molecules affecting target cell recognition by NK cells
Sammanfattning : NK cells were described originally for their ability to lyse certain tumor cell lines without prior immunization. MHC class I molecules have been shown to deliver a negative signal to NK cells preventing killing of target cells. This reaction is mediated via specific receptors on NK cells, referred to as KIR in man and Ly49 in mouse. LÄS MER
14. Gene expression and antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli from Swedish inland waters
Sammanfattning : Extensive use of antibiotics both from human-medicine and veterinary sources are believed to provide selective pressure on bacteria that leads to an increase in antibiotic resistance in environmental waters. Contamination of antibiotic resistant microbes will raise human health risks. LÄS MER
15. Reverse transcriptase assay for analysis of resistance to anti-HIV drugs and their mechanism of action
Sammanfattning : Reverse transcriptase (RT) is a viral enzyme and one of the main targets for drugs against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This work presents a set of sensitive non-radioactive RT assays were developed: standard RT inhibition assay (IC assay); RT binding inhibition assay; RTprotein detection assay and template-primer destruction assay or chain termination assay (CT assay).
