  1. 16. Targeting RNA by the Antisense Approach and a Close Look at RNA Cleavage Reaction

    Författare :Jharna Barman; Lars Baltzer; Roger Strömberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; mRNA targeting; antisense oligonucleotides; target affinity; RNase H; Michaelis-Menten kinetics; exo-nuclease stability; NMR; pH titration; alkaline hydrolysis; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the results of studies on two aspects of nucleic acids. Chemically modified antisense oligonucleotides (AONs) have been evaluated with regards to their suitability for mRNA targeting in an antisense approach (Paper I – III). LÄS MER

  2. 17. Hypothyroidism caused by a mutant thyroid hormone receptor alpha1 : consequences for development and physiology

    Författare :Maria Sjögren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lack of sufficient thyroid hormone during pregnancy and early postnatal development results in profound mental retardation and motor deficits whereas altered thyroid status in the adult is associated with disturbed metabolic homeostasis and impaired cardiac function. Thyroid hormone mediates its effects through the distinct thyroid hormone receptors (TR) TRalpha1 and TRbeta1-2, which are ligand-modulated transcription factors that regulate gene expression both in the presence and absence of hormone. 3. 18. Characterization of Camplyobacter jejuni and C. coli from Swedish patients and chickens - antibiotic resistance, genomic diversity and detection

    Författare :Anna-Clara Rönner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is a Gram-negative, non-spore forming bacterium, which is currently the most common pathogen causing reported cases of food poisoning in Sweden, as well as in most other industrialized countries. Eating or drinking something containing these bacteria is often determined to be the source of infection and as few as 500 bacteria can be enough to cause illness. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Reversal of thyroid dedifferentiation and an invasive phenotype by small molecule kinase inhibitors: an experimental study on normal and malignant cells

    Författare :Camilla Ingeson-Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thyroid; cancer; NIS; MAPK; PI3K; BRAFV600E; migration; 3D culture;

    Sammanfattning : Refractoriness to I-131 in dedifferentiated thyroid cancer is a great concern that restricts radioiodine therapy. There is also a lack of knowledge in understanding the mechanisms leading to repressed sodium iodide symporter (NIS) expression and impaired iodide uptake in tumor cells. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Small RNAs in Phytophthora infestans and cross-talk with potato

    Författare :Sultana Jahan; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Small RNAs (sRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs usually ranging in size 20-30 nt. They are playing important roles in plant-pathogen interactions. This thesis aimed at studying the sRNA populations in potato and Phytophthora infestans and their role in the potato-P. infestans interaction. LÄS MER
