31. Gaussian process models of social change
Sammanfattning : Social systems produce complex and nonlinear relationships in the indicator variables that describe them. Traditional statistical regression techniques are commonly used in the social sciences to study such systems. LÄS MER
32. Law Enforcement Large-Scale IT Systems in EU Internal Security and Migration Policies
Sammanfattning : Borderless Europe raises the problem of increased security deficit. One of its segments may be counterbalanced by the control of immigration flow at the external borders that consists of three endeavours: the common border control policy, the common visa policy and the common asylum policy. 33. Evaluation of regression methods for log-normal data - linear models for environmental exposure and biomarker outcomes
Sammanfattning : The identification and quantification of associations between variables is often of interest in occupational and environmental research, and regression analysis is commonly used to assess these associations. While exposures and biological data often have a positive skewness and can be approximated with the log-normal distribution, much of the inference in regression analysis is based on the normal distribution. 34. Artworks as diagrams : Diagrammatic reasoning and the epistemic potential of art
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with establishing a bridge between matters of aesthetics and epistemology, by investigating the mechanisms through which artworks allow agents to derive knowledge through the former’s manipulation. It is proposed that, in order to understand the epistemic potential of artworks, we need to approach them as diagrams, in the sense developed by Charles Peirce. LÄS MER
35. Pathophysiological characterization of traumatic brain injury using novel analytical methods
Sammanfattning : Severity of traumatic brain injury is usually classified by Glasgow coma scale (GCS) as “mild”, "moderate" or "severe’, which does not capture the heterogeneity of the disease. According to current guidelines, intracranial pressure (ICP) should not exceed 22 mmHg, with no further recommendations concerning individualization or tolerable duration of intracranial hypertension.
