  1. 11. Early diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer : observational studies in the National Prostate Cancer Register of Sweden and the Västerbotten Intervention Project

    Författare :Benny Holmström; Pär Stattin; Håkan Jonsson; Mattias Johansson; Gunnar Aus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; prostate-specific antigen; single nucleotide polymorphism; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi; Urology; kirurgi; särskilt urologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing has caused a steep increase in the incidence of prostate cancer, especially the incidence of localised low risk disease. In order to decrease the overdiagnosis accompanied by PSA testing, analysis of inherited genetic variants have been suggested as potential tools for clinical assessment of disease risk. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Insights into breast cancer: New familial patterns and identification of a potential predictive marker

    Författare :Carolina Ellberg; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BRCA1; BRCA2; Spider telangiectasias; Heredity; Parental inheritance; Recessive; familial; Breast cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The last proportion of heredity in breast cancer has proven to be somewhat elusive despite massive attempts to identify the associated factors. Approximately 50 percent of breast cancer caused by familial factors is currently explained. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Assessments of PSA Forms and hK2 as Very Early Predictors of Prostate Cancer

    Författare :David Ulmert; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate Cancer Screening; PSA; Prostate Cancer; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; Early Detection; hK2;

    Sammanfattning : Concentrations of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and human kallikrein 2 (hK2) were investigated in blood samples that had been obtained from men who were diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) decades later. The studies were based on a cohort comprising 22,444 men who, in 1974?1986, were early middle aged and represented a non-PCa-screened population. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Adverse effects of curative treatment of prostate cancer

    Författare :Jon Örn Fridriksson; Pär Stattin; Camilla Thellenberg-Karlsson; Mats Lambe; Francesco Montorsi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; prostate-specific antigen; decision aids; radical prostatectomy; radiotherapy; patient readmission; adverse effects; Urology; kirurgi; särskilt urologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background Screening for prostate cancer is debated, there is conflicting data on the net benefit of screening. Men who consider screening need to be informed on the pros and cons. Rehospitalization after surgery can be used as an indicator of general quality of care. For radical prostatectomy, little is known on the readmission rate after surgery. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Increased possibilities during the last decades for early detection of prostate cancer have sparked research on preventable or treatable risk factors and on improvements in therapy. Treatments of the disease still entail significant side effects potentially affecting men during the rest of their lives. LÄS MER
