1. Pelvic inflammatory disease and epithelial ovarian tumors
Sammanfattning : Background: Epithelial ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumors consist of several histotypes in which high-grade serous carcinoma is the most common. The majority of epithelial ovarian tumors are considered to originate in the fimbriated end of the fallopian tubes. What initiates these tumors is far from completely understood. LÄS MER
2. From Signal to Social : Steps Towards Pervasive Social Context
Sammanfattning : The widespread adoption of smartphones with advanced sensing, computing and data transfer capabilities has made scientific studies of human social behavior possible at a previously unprecedented scale. It has also allowed context-awareness to become a natural feature in many applications using features such as activity recognition and location information. LÄS MER

4. The Euclidean traveling salesman problem with neighborhoods and a connecting fence
Sammanfattning : An important class of problems in robotics deals with the planning of paths. In this thesis, we study this class of problems from an algorithmic point of view by considering cases where we have complete knowledge of the environment and each solution must ensure that a point-sized robot capable of moving continuously and turning arbitrarily accomplishes the following: (1) visits a given set of objects attached to an impenetrable simple polygon in the plane, and (2) travels along a path of minimum length over all the possible paths that visit the objects without crossing the polygon. 5. Description of spatial and temporal distributions of epiphytic lichens
Sammanfattning : Lichens are, in most cases, sensitive to anthropogenic factors such as air pollution, global warming, forestry and fragmentation. Two studies are included in this thesis. The first is an evaluation of the importance of old oak for the rare epiphytic lichen Cliostomum corrugatum (Ach.) Fr. LÄS MER
