  1. 1. Physical and biological dispersal barriers in invasive, bloom-forming microalgae

    Författare :Ingrid Sassenhagen; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dispersal barriers; microalgae; phenotypic differentiation; population genetics; priority effects;

    Sammanfattning : For a long time microorganisms were assumed to have unlimited dispersal due to their small size and high cell numbers. Most microbial species can be transported by water currents, in water droplets by wind and attached to other organisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prenatal food and micronutrient supplementation to malnourished women in Bangladesh : Effects, Equity, and Cost-effectiveness

    Författare :Rubina Shaheen; Lars-Åke Persson; Lars Lindholm; Yemane Berhane Tsehay; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malnutrition; pregnancy; food supplement; micronutrient supplement; birth weight; infant mortality; effectiveness; economic evaluation; equity; Bangladesh; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Maternal nutrition is closely linked to child health and survival. In Bangladesh there is a high prevalence of undernutrition in the form of chronic energy deficiency [CED, Body Mass Index ... LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bound to the past: Historical contingency in aquatic microbial metacommunities

    Författare :Máté Vass; Silke Langenheder; Steven Declerck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metacommunity; historical processes; priority effects; community assembly.; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : The composition of ecological communities differs due to a combination of different processes, which includes selection by local environmental conditions, dispersal from the regional species pool and random events. Additionally, historical processes such as past dispersal events may leave their imprint on communities as well, resulting in historically contingent communities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Strengthening fairness, transparency and accountability in health care priority setting at district level in Tanzania : opportunities, challenges and the way forward

    Författare :Stephen Maluka; Anna-Karin Hurtig; Miguel San Sebastian; Norman Daniels; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; decentralisation; health care; accountability for reasonableness; priority setting; health systems; Tanzania; Public health science; Folkhälsovetenskap; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Background During the 1990s, Tanzania, like many other developing countries, adopted health sector reforms. The most common policy change under health sector reforms has been decentralisation, which involves the transfer of power and authority from the central levels to the local governments. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of structure liming on clay soil

    Författare :Jens Blomquist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Structure lime, comprising 80-85% ground limestone (CaCO3) and 15-20% slaked lime (Ca(OH)2), is applied to clay soils to counteract losses of particulate phosphorus (PP) through aggregate stabilisation. This thesis evaluated the effect of structure lime on soil aggregate stability, aggregate size distribution, draught requirement in tillage and crop yield. LÄS MER
