21. On evaluation of organ damage in perinatal asphyxia : an experimental and clinical study
Sammanfattning : Leakage of intracellular enzymes such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) signalling multi organ dysfunction (MOD) is seen together with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) after perinatal asphyxia. Hypothermia (HT) can attenuate HIE following perinatal asphyxia and hypoxia-ischemia (HI) but the neuroprotective efficacy falls dramatically the longer the delay in initiating HT. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Much is known about childbirth fear in Sweden including its relationship to caesarean birth. Less is understood about this in Australia. Sammanfattning : The experience of pregnancy and childbirth is a central life event with special implications for women at high risk. This thesis describes the meaning of pregnancy, childbirth and midwifery care in four qualitative interview studies based on the lifeworld theory. 25. Thyroid function and iodine nutrition in women during pregnancy and in their neonates : Studies among Sudanese subjects
Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis were carried out in Sudan and Sweden. Pregnant Sudanese women, who had a significantly lower urinary iodine concentration than their Swedish counterparts, showed significantly lower thyrotrophin (TSH) levels in weeks 36-39 of pregnancy and higher free thyroxine (FT4) levels both in weeks 20-24 and 36-39 of pregnancy than Swedish pregnant women.
