1. Rainflow Analysis of Switching Markov Loads
Sammanfattning : Rainflow cycles are often used in fatigue analysis of materials for describing the variability of applied loads. Therefore, an important characteristic of a random load process is the intensity of rainflow cycles, also called the expected rainflow matrix (RFM), which can be used for evaluation of the fatigue life. 2. Ice load prediction for design of ice-going ships for inland waterways
Sammanfattning : With increasing interest in utilizing the inland waterways (IWW) in European countries, the design of IWW vessels gains attention both from a transport efficiency and an emission control point of view. However, unlike in western and central European countries, in Nordic countries, e.g. LÄS MER
3. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing
Sammanfattning : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 4. Statistical analysis and simulation methods related to load-sharing models
Sammanfattning : We consider the problem of estimating the reliability of bundles constructed of several fibres, given a particular kind of censored data. The bundles consist of several fibres which have their own independent identically dis-tributed failure stresses (i.e.the forces that destroy the fibres). LÄS MER
5. Numerical methods for load and response prediction for use in acoustic fatigue
Sammanfattning : Acoustic fatigue can occur in structural elements of an aircraft exposed to very high sound pressures. To deal with acoustic fatigue, mainly empirical methods have been applied and often late in the design phase. Current design guidelines have three main limitations. First, they do not say anything about the load intensities. LÄS MER
