  1. 36. Characterising Halogen Bonding in a Cooperative Model System

    Författare :Stefan Peintner; Mate Erdelyi; Anja Sandström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Halogen Bond; NMR; peptide; conformation; RDC; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Non-covalent interactions are the main driving factor for secondary structure formation of biomacromolecules and are of enormous importance for the direction of molecular recognition events, for example those of importance for drug discovery. Profound understanding of these interactions is of vital importance to achieve high affinity and selectivity of a ligand to a chosen target. LÄS MER

  2. 37. An Investigation of Peroxidase Activity in Biomimetic and Biological Systems

    Författare :Ekaterina Ryabova; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolism; Metabolism; enzymologi; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; hemoglobin; catalysis; peptide; peroxidase; protoporphyrin IX; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In order to create a heme environment which permits biomimicry of heme-containing plant peroxidases and investigate the role played by the vinyl side chains of the porphyrin ring on the stability and, possibly, catalytic activity of model compounds, a number of new synthetic microperoxidases -– hemin-6(7)-gly-his methyl ester (HGH) and hemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (HGGH) and hemin-6,7-bis(gly-gly-his methyl ester) (H2GGH) as well as mesohemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (MGGH) and deuterohemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (DGGH) have been prepared by condensation of a peptide residue with the propionic side chains of hemin, mesohemin and deuterohemin, respectively. Reactivity studies towards different organic and inorganic substrates showed that not only five- but also six-coordinate hemin peptide complexes catalyze the oxidation of substrates by H2O2. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Interfacial Properties of Lipid Liquid Crystalline Nanoparticles

    Författare :Pauline Vandoolaeghe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interaction; adsorption; surface; peptide; bilayer; cubic phase; monoolein; cubosome; lipid; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; ellipsometry; neutron reflectivity; QCM-D; SAXD;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles are studied for their potential as biocompatible carriers for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic applications. Their potential as delivery vehicles is due to their nanometer size, their controllable structure and physical properties and their large carrying capacity of a wide range of molecules. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Development of a Passive Immunization Strategy Against Atherosclerosis

    Författare :Alexandru Schiopu; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; regression; plaque; peptide; oxidized LDL; immune system; carotid stenosis; cardiovascular diseases; apolipoprotein B-100; atherosclerosis; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; vascular injury; ultrasound; antibodies;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, characterized by the accumulation of lipids and fibrous tissue in the wall of medium and large-sized arteries. The characteristic culprit of the disease is the atheroma, or atherosclerotic plaque, a patchy thickening of the arterial wall which affects the lumen, inducing various degrees of stenosis. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Towards the Development of Photoswitchable β-Hairpin Mimetics

    Författare :Máté Erdélyi; Adolf Gogoll; Anders Karlén; John A. Robinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; β-hairpin; peptidomimetics; Sonogashira; NMR; photochemistry; microwave; peptide; palladium; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Peptide secondary structure mimetics are important tools in medicinal chemistry, as they provide analogues of endogeneous peptides with new physicochemical and pharmacological properties. The β-hairpin motif has been shown to be involved in numerous physiological processes, among others in regulation of eucariotic gene transcription. LÄS MER
