  1. 1. Survival of the Unfit : Path Dependence and the Estonian Oil Shale Industry

    Författare :Rurik Holmberg; Staffan Laestadius; Mats Bladh; Mats Söderström; Nick von Tunzelmann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Estonia; oil shale; path dependence; lock-in; institutions; knowledge; Sweden; innovation; Soviet Union; technology; systems; energy; shale oil; electricity; fossil fuel; environment; economy; Technology and social change; Teknik och social förändring;

    Sammanfattning : Estonia is the only country in the world, which is totally dependent on oil shale in its energy system. Although this fossil fuel exists in enormous quantities around the world, it has so far not been utilized on a larger scale. The reasons for this have been both economic and, in recent times, ecological. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Techno-Economic Perspectives on Biofuel Futures – Modelling Transport Sector Strategies in an Energy System Context

    Författare :Martin Börjesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; biogas; oil dependence; model; MARKAL; transport; CO2; optimisation; biofuel;

    Sammanfattning : The high oil dependence and the continuous growth of energy use in the transport sector have in recent years triggered interest in transport biofuels as a measure to mitigate climate change andimprove energy security. This work aims to examine techno-economic interactions linked totransport biofuel strategies in national and regional energy systems and their implications for thecost-effective realisation of energy policy objectives. 3. 3. Nonionic Microemulsions: Dependence on Oil Chain Length of the Surfactant Curvature Elastic Properties

    Författare :Joakim Balogh; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Light Scattering; NMR relaxation NMR self-diffusion; SANS contrast variation and contrast matched studies; saddle play modulus; made by C12E5; Nonionic microemulsion; balanced microemulsion; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis has been to increase the knowledge about nonionic microemulsions and how they behave with increasing temperature. I have studied Nonionic Microemulsions made from C12E5, water and oil, with predominally hexadecane as oil, but also with octane, decane, dodecane and tetradecane as oil. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Enhanced Dielectric Response Methods for the Characterization of Dielectric Materials

    Författare :Jing Hao; Nathaniel Taylor; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FDS; non-contact; dielectric response; combined AC and DC; space-charge polarization;

    Sammanfattning : Dielectric response measurement is widely used for condition assessment of high voltage equipment and for characterizing candidate materials. Measurement with high accuracy and reliability is important in all stages of the lifetime of high voltage equipment, from manufacture to replacement decision. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Polymer effects on microemulsions and lamellar phases

    Författare :Håkan Bagger-Jörgensen; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Poisson-Boltzmann equation; hard sphere; osmometry; small angle scattering; phase behaviour; hydrophobically modified polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; nonionic surfactant; microemulsion; lamellar phase; undulation force; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main part of this thesis deals with the effects of adsorbing and non-adsorbing polymers when mixed with microemulsion droplets and bilayers in a lamellar phase. The phase behaviour, microstructure and interactions in a nonionic surfactant/ water/ oil-system, comprising penta ethylene oxide dodecyl ether (C12E5) and decane, was investigated. LÄS MER
