  1. 1. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics : Targeting Neuropathic Pain

    Författare :Anna Skogh; Anja Sandström; Christian Sköld; Rebecca Fransson; Philip Thompson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Substance P 1–7; Peptidomimetics; Solid-phase Peptide Synthesis SPPS ; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Imidazole; Bioisostere; Neuropathic pain; Allodynia; Structure-activity relationships; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area. Sammanfattning : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nerve injury induced pain and spinal cord stimulation

    Författare :Camilla Ultenius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neuropathic pain;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic neuropathic pain caused by injury to or disease in the nervous system is relatively common and results in major suffering, poor quality of life and incapacity. Such pain is a therapeutic challenge because a considerable portion of the patients fails to benefit from pharmacotherapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channels in neuropathic pain

    Författare :Jenny Fjell Hjelmström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :spinal sensory neurons; nociceptor; IB4; tetrodotoxin; sodium channels; SNS PN3; NaN SNS2; gene regulation; NGF; GDNF; in situ hybridization; immunofluorescence; sodium currents; neuropathic pain models; Taiep;

    Sammanfattning : Injury to the peripheral nervous system can cause neuropathic pain. Abnormal sodium channel activity has been implicated as a source of ectopic firing and changes in nociceptive threshold following nerve injury. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sex differences in acute and chronic experimental pain models

    Författare :Lili Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :estrogen;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in response to noxious stimuli and in the development of chronic pain have been increasingly recognized and studied in humans and laboratory animals. In the clinic, extensive evidence indicates that there are a large number of chronic pain conditions that have higher prevalence in women than in men and some of these conditions, such as migraine and temporomandibular pain disorder, are also affected by the menstrual cycle.
