11. Localization of lipoprotein lipase in mouse pancreas, kidney and placenta : impact of metabolic disturbances on cellular distribution and activity regulation
Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the key enzyme for metabolism of triglycerides in plasma lipoproteins. In recent years many new facts about the enzyme and its regulation have been uncovered. The endothelial membrane protein GPIHBP1 translocates LPL through endothelial cells and holds the enzyme in place at the luminal side of the capillary endothelium. LÄS MER
12. The role of cell adhesion molecules in tissue formation and organogenesis
Sammanfattning : Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are cell surface glycoproteins that promote connection between two adjacent cells or between a cell and extra cellular matrix. These interactions are essential for tissue organisation during development and for the maintenance of tissue integrity in adult organisms. LÄS MER
13. Novel factors affecting clearance of triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins from blood
Sammanfattning : Apolipoprotein (apo) A-V is the most recently discovered member of a protein family responsible for the structure and metabolic fate of plasma lipoproteins. While most of the apolipoproteins are well characterized with regard to structure, interactions and function, the role of apoA-V is not well understood. LÄS MER
14. Substrate specificity of protein kinases studied with synthetic peptides
Sammanfattning : This thesis concentrates on the substrate specificities of protein kinases A and C (PKA, PKC). Synthetic peptides are used for that purpose, both in soluble and cellulose membrane-bound form. The, stereospecificity of both protein kinases was studied with D-amino acid containing synthetic peptides. LÄS MER
15. Conditional targeting of the PDGF-B gene
Sammanfattning : Platelet derived growth factors (PDGF) are known as mitogens for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and glia cells in culture. Previous in vivo analyses have shown that PDGF-B is necessary for normal embryonic development and life after birth, but the relative importance of the various cellular sources of PDGF-B during development has not been clarified.
