16. Fluorescence Studies of Membranes -- Proteins and Lipids, their Dynamics and Interactions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, fluorescence spectroscopy was utilized to probe protein and lipid dynamics and interactions in their native, or close to native, environments. Thereby insight could be gained into the fundamentals of bacterial cell division and the innateimmune system. A particular focus has been devoted to fluorescence fluctuations. LÄS MER
17. Studies of protein structure, dynamics and protein-ligand interactions using NMR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis, protein-ligand interactions were investigated using the chaperone LcrH, from Yersinia as target protein. The structure of a peptide encompassing the amphipathic domain (residue 278-300) of the protein YopD from Yersinia was determined by NMR in 40% TFE. LÄS MER
18. Functional dynamics of glycosyltransferases : Solution-state NMR studies of peripheral membrane proteins involved in glycolipid biosynthesis in bacteria
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is an existential threat enabled by bacterial adaptation and fuelled by inappropriate use of medication. The ensuing shortage of effective treatments has led to a rise in deaths linked to resistant bacterial pathogens. LÄS MER
19. A theoretical study of 5-Aminolevulinic acid and its esters : properties and lipid permeability
Sammanfattning : 5-aminolevulinic acid (5ALA) is a widely used prodrug in Photodynamic therapy (PDT). The target molecule in 5ALA-PDT is Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), which is synthesized endogenously via the heme pathway in the cell. LÄS MER
20. Lipid Signalling Dynamics in Insulin-secreting β-cells
Sammanfattning : Certain membrane lipids are involved in intracellular signalling processes, among them phosphoinositides and diacylglycerol (DAG). They mediate a variety of functions, including the effects of nutrients and neurohormonal stimuli on insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells. LÄS MER
