  1. 1. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Författare :Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring

    Författare :Haiyan Xie; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconversion; upconverting nanoparticles; fluorescence-guided-surgery; fluorescence diagnostics; photodynamic therapy; multi-spectral imaging; spectroscopy; biomedical optics; fluorescence; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Xie;

    Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 3. 3. Time-Varying Excitation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Biological Applications

    Författare :Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Måns Ehrenberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is to explore and use the benefits of time-varying excitation in fluorescence spectroscopy for studies of biomolecular dynamics. Two new techniques taking advantage of modulated excitation are presented. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Photo-induced dark states influorescence spectroscopy – investigations & applications

    Författare :Andriy Chmyrov; Jerker Widengren; Johan Hofkens; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; triplet state; isomerisation; photobleaching; quenching; diffusion; total internal reflection; interface; Spectroscopy; Spektroskopi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on investigations of transient dark states of fluorescentmolecules using spectroscopic techniques. The main purpose is to show andconvince the reader that transient dark states are not always a nuisance, butalso represent an additional source of information. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Laser Scanning Multiphoton Microscopy – Focusing on Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy and Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging for Biomedical Applications

    Författare :Jeemol James; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser scanning multiphoton microscopy; intrinsic cellular fluorophores.; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; fluorescence lifetime imaging; melanoma metastasis;

    Sammanfattning : Laser scanning multiphoton microscopy (MPM) is considered as a non-invasive technology for three-dimensional imaging of complex biological tissues. The quantitative potential of the MPM is not investigated as much as qualitative imaging. LÄS MER
